Quartz Creek Campground — Glacier National Park

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Eight miles down a rough dirt road past Polebridge, Quartz Creek Campground sits within Glacier National Park with just seven or eight sites, a vault toilet, a central bear box, and a hand-pump water source that has been reported out of service. Sites 4 and 5 front the creek directly. The road condition is a real consideration: one reviewer described it as a seven-mile stretch her car did not appreciate. Bears are present, and the single bear box is shared among all sites. Campers who don't mind the drive-in access and want proximity to the Quartz Lake trailhead will find this a workable base, and those traveling with dogs can check pet-friendly camping near Glacier National Park for comparable options in the area.

Off the beaten path

There are about 8 sites here, several miles down the road from the —- Glacier ranger station. It’s quiet, all you can hear is the creek and the wind in the trees. Sites 4 and 5 are the best as they are right on the creek with water access. There is one central bear box, one central water pump (currently NO water), and one clean vault toilet. You are close to a couple of trailheads as well.

An ok campground when you're in a pinch.

I got to Glacier at 1 pm, and of course by then all of the campgrounds are full.... except this one! I rushed over, through Polebridge and onto this 7 mile, horrific dirt road that my car did not appreciate, and got one of the last sites. There are only 7 sites and it is in bear country and I was camping alone, so yes I was afraid. Its next to a cute river and a hiking trail to Quartz lake, but not much else around. A good stopping point on your way to a better campground, in my case Apgar, but I wouldnt center my trip around staying here.
