Description
Deep in the dense forest of the Kootenai National Forest just outside the hamlet of Yakt, this riverside spot sits directly above the Yaak River on a wooded flat shaded by overhanging conifers. Access is via a sharp turn off Highway 2 onto a narrow, rutted dirt two-track — low-hanging branches make this unsuitable for tall or large rigs, but it's manageable for trucks, vans, and similar high-clearance vehicles even after rain. The site opens onto a riverbank perch with a fire pit, room for a few vehicles, and direct access to a section of river known for trout; a rail line on the far bank and faint highway noise are the main trade-offs for an otherwise quiet setting.
