    Buffalo River State Park Campground

    A Quiet gem 💎

If you want the best kept state park I have seen this is the place. Beautiful, quiet, well maintained, and wildlife give this park a perfect 10 for me. Not a scrap of trash the restrooms clean and well stocked. You don’t have a pothole in site- heck not even a weed on the road. Sites are large and come with picnic tables and a fire pit you can also grill on. The sites are covered with lush live well manicured trees and they’ve taken the time to make nice. Greenway breaks between each campsite.

    Buffalo River State Park Campground

    Easy camping spot

This is a great location if you are just getting into the camping lifestyle. The easy to drive to camp sites and flat geography make it easy to find that perfect spot. If you want to fall asleep and wake up to the sound of running water, you are able to get a site near Buffalo River. If planning on hiking with younger children, the trails around the camp site are very easy as the offer very little elevation change and are very well groomed. The park itself is very pretty all year round whether it's in spring/early summer and seeing the wildflowers and prairie smoke or the fall and the dazzling display of colors.

    Old Crossing Treaty Park

    Huot

Camping is free, no reservations required. The unfortunate side effect, sometimes, is camping around irresponsible campers. Avoid major holidays. Besides that one issue the campsite allows tents and RV's, has latrines, and a boat/canoe launch on the Red Lake River. Each site has a picnic table, fire pit and trash barrel nearby. There are some sites with trees for hammockers.

    Fosston City Campground

    Basic facilities in Fosston

This campground provides a basic spot to pitch a tent or park an RV. It is not a destination for a great camping vacation , but provides a simple and inexpensive place to stay the night if on a road trip through the area, or if coming to town for a sporting event or to visit someone in town. A few campsites are provided in the town park next to the picnic shelter and alongside the town highway department buildings. Bathrooms are provided in those buildings. The setting is very basic, but clean and provides necessities. A few shops and cafes nearby, recreation options include an inexpensive golf course nearby, and within driving distance to several National wildlife refuges

    Buffalo River State Park Campground

    Everything you need

Good state park campground with everything you need. You can make your reservations online once you get there, and it’s nice because there’s no online transaction fee. But watch out that you pay the $7 daily state park entry fee as well as the camping fee, because otherwise you'll get a friendly visit from a ranger!

There are two loops, one slightly larger one with 50 and 30 amp power (no water or sewer) for $34, and one smaller one with no power for $24. We stayed in a power site because we couldn’t handle the heat anymore, otherwise the smaller one looked a little nicer and quieter and we would have stayed there.

Showers were nice and clean and free. Bathrooms were nice.

Very nice walking trails all around the campground and throughout the park as a whole. Trash dumpsters here as well as an assortment of segregated recycle bins. Good cell reception with Verizon and ATT. Firewood available at office for $8 and ice for $3.

Group camp is off from the main campground a ways, but connected via a little walking trail. There is a dump station and potable water fill at the campground exit.

No drinking allowed at any Minnesota State Park campground!

    Buffalo River State Park Campground

Meticulously Maintained Campground Along a River

Spectacularly well-maintained campground along the Buffalo River in western Minnesota, half an hour east of Fargo, ND.  Two small loops of campsites, one with electrical service and the other without.  We stayed in the larger loop with electrical service: half the loop backing up against the prairie (lower numbers) and the other half backing up against the woods (higher numbers).  Well spaced sites, with some screening between sites.  Very clean bathhouse (appears new) with flush toilets, hot showers and a dish-washing station.  Several looping hiking trails start in and around the campground, so you can put together a hike from 15 minutes to two hours.  Ours was about an hour, half in the prairie and half along the river.  Friendly and helpful staff/rangers.

    Fosston City Campground

Great to stop over for the night

This is a campground within a city municipal yard.

We just needed a place to crash for the night. We came in pretty late. There were 2 other campers.

The site numbers are along the back of the fence and were difficult to see at night. There aren't really individual driveways, tent pads, picnic tables, etc.

We just chose an empty spot and set up camp.

It was nice and flat for our tent. There was electricity though we didn't use it. There was a dumpster and a shelter with many picnic tables near by.

There's one flush toilet and shower and they were nice and clean.

I was pleasantly surprised by this little campground. One downside was that there was a railroad nearby so the passing trains' horns we're really loud. But it wasn't all night.

    Buffalo River State Park Campground

    Check out the Prairie

    • This was my first time seeing a prairie. It was a really neat experience.
    • This Minnesota state park is just outside of Fargo,ND, so it makes for a great get away in nature just outside of the hustle and bustle of the city.
    • I recommend camping in one of the sites beside the Prairie.
    • Extremely clean bath houses.
    • Beware of mosquitos!
