Charlemont

The Best Camping Near Charlemont, Massachusetts

Mohawk campground and restaurant is my favorite spot to tent camp. Tent sites are located right on the Deerfield River... literally. It is so relaxing to wake up to the sound of the river and you can even head to a local park and tube down the river right back to your site! There is a pub and restaurant right on the premises.

This Campground is located just down the street from Mohawk Trail and other sightseeing areas. 10 minutes down the road in Charlemont, MA, you can check out the Bridge of Flowers or the glacial potholes, they are really cool!

Riverside Camping is the best!

Overall, we plan to return once a year for the fishing and because we love the area. There's just something about the conditions and vibe that isn't as welcoming as some. Other people said the same thing and still come back for the fishing every year as well. My daughter and family love the place and bring their kayaks for great fun on the river.

**Pros**:

*   **Location** is excellent It's right on the Mohawk Trail, Rt 2 in northwestern Massachusetts. Even better, it's right on the Deerfield River which has controlled water releases for kayaks and rafts. The good size river is also stocked with trout on a regular basis.
*   Hookups are available, some even have sewer, no cable which is fine.
*   There's a good restaurant open Thurs. thru Sun. There's a bar as well and some entertainment on weekends.
*   Restrooms are reasonably clean. Didn't try the shower.
*   Couple of pretty good restaurants in the area and lots of trails for hiking.
*   If you're a biker, you'll feel right at home - tons of motorcycles including the owners.

**Cons:**

*   Cash only when we checked in although the bar and restaurant took cards.
*   River sites have no hookups.
*   Sites are pretty close together.
*   Lots of drinking going on.
*   Layout of road can be challenging. Big trailers may have some extra trouble backing in but most people don't mind a few attempts.
*   You have to exit the campground area and come back in to use the dump station as it's located on the right hand side of the one lane road. No hose by the dump station so you are expected to load a dirty hose back into the trailer. (Fellow leaving before us hooked up a 50 ft hose to an empty nearby site to rinse his sewer hose.) After dumping, you drive into the campground further to do a turn around. A looping road would make a huge difference.
*   Poison ivy all over the edge of our site.

Depends on what you're looking for

Camping right on the river. Sites are close by with little to no shade. This is a great spot for relaxing by a fire with the river to keep you zen. Great for tubing and kayaking. The owners were nice in my experience. The bathrooms were nothing fancy but mostly clean. Overall, great spot to tent it waking up to the sound of the river is just too good to pass up.

River camping

Mohawk Park is a small campground that provides RV &amp; tent sites, some along the Deerfield River. Sites are small but have electricity, water, picnic tables, &amp; fire rings. Fishing, swimming, &amp; tubing are allowed in the river...and you'll often see tubers floating by during the summer months!

The park is perfectly located along the scenic Mohawk Trail (Rt 2) about half-way between North Adams and Greenfield... with a rustic restaurant on site, where they're serving up all your culinary and beverage needs.

Small Campground on the Mountain

Clise and easy access to the deerfield, either for tubing or whitewater, but noisy campground close to the main road, not tent friendly. It has a loud bar with loud people coming and going at odd hours right at the entrance of the campground. Not easy to sleep here.
