Buckhorn Dam Rec Area - Buckhorn Lake

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Boating and swimming on Buckhorn Lake draw campers to this US Army Corps of Engineers site in eastern Kentucky, where water access is a short distance from most sites. The campground is small but well-maintained, with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer, plus restrooms, showers, a playground, and a picnic shelter. GPS units sometimes struggle with the location, so plan navigation in advance. One notable draw for the broader region: elk sightings are reported nearby, though not within the campground itself. Campers wanting nearby alternatives can browse campgrounds around Hazard or consider Buckhorn Dam Campground, a short distance to the north. Bring your own boat if you plan to get out on the water.

Simple site outside Daniel Boone National Forest

This area is the best place to see Elk in the east! This is a small campground near Buckhorn Lake. It is close to the water for boating and swimming, there is a playground, but for much else you will need to travel outside the area.  There is a resort park called Buckhorn Lake nearby, which is a state facility with cabin camping (and a lodge), that is much more built up. Your GPS may be confused.

Yay: We liked the simplicity of the site, it is well taken care of.

Nay: No complaints but you need to bring your own boat.

Surprise: The ELK (not at the campground though).
