Griffs Valley View RV Park

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Fishing, biking, and a stocked pond draw campers to Griffs Valley View RV Park, a full-hookup RV park set on a former horse farm in Altoona, Iowa. The 25-mile Chichaqua Valley Trail runs directly between the campground and the park office, giving cyclists and walkers immediate trail access without driving anywhere. A groomed fishing pond with paved paths around its perimeter sits on the property, where anglers have reported catching bluegill. Sites feature concrete pads with 30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer connections, and the grounds include manicured grass areas between rigs. Nearby, Adventureland Campground offers a different setup for those who want a change of scenery.

Site spacing is the most consistent concern in reviews. Several campers note that despite the large concrete pads, rigs end up close together, particularly during peak season. Tim H. puts it plainly: "you are right on top of your neighbor." That said, reviewers consistently describe the grounds as well-maintained, with clean bathrooms and shower facilities split between two shower houses, one at the front of the park and one toward the back.

The park runs full from May through September. Multiple reviewers report calling ahead only to find the park fully booked by voicemail, though a few managed to secure a spot by reaching staff directly. Reservations are strongly advisable. The office, located up NE 46th St attached to a feed store to the north, also handles propane fill-ups. No pets are allowed. WiFi is listed as an amenity, though at least one recent reviewer found it unavailable on-site, so a backup data plan is worth having.

The community center includes a kitchen, TV room, game room, laundry, and a storm shelter. One reviewer noted the absence of fire rings as a drawback. The park accommodates RVs up to 45 feet and accepts stays ranging from a single night to extended monthly arrangements, including winter stays. The owner actively manages snow and ice removal during colder months, according to long-term guests. Campers looking for a quick overnight stop near I-80 with full hookups may also consider Flying J Travel Center — Altoona as a no-frills alternative.

One night stay

Park was pretty full, but they found us a spot for the night. Excellent pricing and the yards are BIG compared to other places we've stayed. Would definitely come back

Quite and well maintained

This is a nice place to stay off of I 80. It’s nice but packed. The voicemail said it was fully booked from May until September. Good thing we got through because they found us a site for the night.

Blah, kinda stuffy

Nice pads to ark on, however you are right on top of your neighbor. There is no WII-Fii so bring your own. The community center has nice showers, laundry, game room. Kitchen with attached TV room, oh and storm shelter. The pond is nice, groomed all around with paved paths.

Home Away from Home

I stayed at Griffs for two months in autumn while working in Altoona. The campground very very well kept with spacious concrete pads, both 30/50 amp and full water/ sewage hookups. Two nice laundry/shower houses, one in the front and one in the back of the campground. You can check in and fill propane at the campground office that is actually up NE 46th St to the north of the campground attached to a feed store/ barn that is own by a sweet yet stern woman named Carol. You will see what I mean from the notes she leaves throughout the campground. They cracked me up. Nicely paved 25 mile long biking and walking Chichaqua Valley Trail runs right between the campground and the campground office. During the summer months they are quite busy so definitely call ahead to before making the trip out.

Hope to make it back someday.

Adorable little campsite

Really welcoming host, treated us like friends. Water, sewer and electric. Quiet at night. Nice recreational fishing pond and a clubhouse with bathrooms that were really clean. Also had laundry available. A small playground. And horses with hay to fees them! Good price and definitely will visit again. The only thing we really missed was a fire ring. 🔥

Clean and well-maintained

Nice place to stop as we head west. Sites are level and well marked. The property is kept up nicely. Has a cute pond and is adjacent to a bike and running trail. The main lodge has very clean restrooms and showers with hot water! Recommended

Beautiful and spacious

Campground is on an old horse farm. Sites are large with nicely manicured lawns. My only issue was that my hose was just barely long enough but that was my fault not the campgrounds. The woman that runs it was very nice and met me at the entrance to lead me to my spot.

Top of the line RV park

We got here and the staff and people are very friendly they keep it very clean and it’s nice and quiet. The lots are a nice size and have hookups for everything. There is a recreational building and bathroom facilities to use as well.

There is a really nice pond for fishing that has some bluegills. The water is very clean.

Overall this is really nice place. There is some construction going on with the new Facebook data centers but they aren’t very loud.

There is also a very nice bike trail right outside the park.

Very nice, well maintained

This is likely the nicest rv park I have seen. No facilities (pool, playground) for kids. There is a nice pond with water fountain. Lovely landscaping and sculptures throughout park. Sites are spacious with great grass areas for each. Some shaded sites available. Spent the winter here, they are very good at keeping snow and ice under control. Bathrooms are immaculate. Large community center, gym, and laundry facilities on site.
