Busy but relatively quiet

Spots are mostly wide open to the road but separated enough to feel private (until drivers/walkers come through). Site had gravel and roots so tent spot took some searching and clearing to find. While pretty busy it still felt private and quiet aside from nearby sites playing music most of the day…

Beautiful primitive campground I almost don't want to tell anyone about

$4 individual primitive site

Note: if you cannot sleep to the sound of trains at night, this is not the campground for you. I don't mind them at all, and rather enjoy the sound, but there were probably three of them that went by in the middle of the night rather close to the campground. There's a…

Turner South - NON Electric Campground

Very quiet spot with no electric short walk to Turner Lake.   Spaces are well spaced, some with good shade and others in full sun.   It shares a nice bath house with two other campgrounds on the property, Fox Den and Prairie View.  Two bath room buildings in the campground as well.  Many trails and…

Very nice campground

Rock Cut St. Park is in the middle of an urban area, but you would not know it. The park is very large(the largest in northern Illinois) and has multiple campgrounds. I stayed in the Prairie View campground. Trees all around, plenty of shade. There is a central bathhouse with flush toilets and 3…

Great place to camp and see Chicago

We stayed here code a week while my husband had to fly out for work. It was safe, and everyone was so friendly and kind. The neighbors welcomed us and by the time we had to leave we felt like we were part of the community. There is easy access to public transportation. It was HOT and there are no…

Nice and quiet

Its nice and quiet. When you park at the lot head towards Utica. The first spot was about a half mile in. If you head further down there is a nice spot with a shelter and fire place. They are working on the bridge before Utica so you can not walk into town. No restrooms but there is a water…

Not for #vanlife

Full hook ups and electric sites plus some restricted Equestrian and walk in sites
Not for #vanlife. I tried to pay for a tent site and was told “you’re not supposed to sleep in your car” “this campground is for RV’s only”

Quiet spacious camp ground

We are here on Memorial Day weekend and it is full, but still very quiet. The sites are well maintained including the fire pit areas. Water hookup is back from pad so as others have said, bring the longer water hose. Nearby Siegler Lake and Big Rock Creek in the Big Rock Forest Preserve are…

Adequate State Park with Amazing Peoplr

So I have to tell you this is only the third park I have been to and the first one in my fifth wheel.

The park is huge! The sites are nice enough although the site I was in was much better suited for tenters than an rv.

I have a tree on each side about 1.5' from the rv. If I had slides I would…

A great place to avoid the crowds!

This little gem is across the river from Starved Rock State Park. So, you can appreciate the bluff overlooks of the river without dealing with the crowds. Real live Buffalo are a treat for kids and animal lovers. A number of trails around effigy mounds make for a nice walk.

A place to make memories

My mother-in-law was a member here for years. My family would frequently visit her camper during the summers. Always a great time! My company even hosted employee appreciation events here a few times. The list of amenities is remarkable, but membership is required. The beach and lake were…

Big park with lots of options for camping and recreation

Rock Cut St. Park is in the middle of an urban area, but you would not know it.  The park is very large and has multiple campgrounds.  I stayed in the Plum Grove campground.  Trees were not really leafed out and some sites would have shade later in the year.  Site along the edge of the campground…

Options for a weekend away

Had a great time last weekend at Rock Cut. The camp grounds and roads were well maintained, and the larger park as a whole was very clean and spacious. Toilet facilities are about the average for a state park, but hopefully you will spend most of your time outside of them enjoying nature. We…

Great prairie camp ground

This is our favorite local camp ground. The park has electric and water hook ups at all RV sites. Additionally the spots are paved and have nice fire ring area. The prairies are very relaxing to watch and hike through. Most importantly the dump sites, especially in the back of the park, are well…
