Hells Canyon Recreation Area - Woodhead Campground

Within Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, Woodhead Campground sits on Brownlee Reservoir where the Snake River enters the canyon. This Forest Service facility accommodates RVs up to 51 feet with full hookups and welcomes tent campers year-round at sites accessible by vehicle, boat, or on foot.

The campground features paved, level sites with water and electric hookups, plus amenities including showers, restrooms, and a dump station. Phillip C. notes the facility is "located in Brownlee Reservoir at the mouth of Hells Canyon Snake River area" with "exceptionally clean" restrooms and showers. A boat launch provides direct reservoir access for fishing and paddling, though the steep terrain limits shoreline activities without watercraft.

Anglers appreciate the fish cleaning station and proximity to productive waters. The road requires careful navigation with sharp curves, but large rigs can reach the campground. Some sites offer significant shade while others remain more exposed. WiFi is available through local telephone service for an additional fee.

Camp hosts introduce themselves to visitors and maintain the facility's reputation for cleanliness. For additional camping options in the region, explore places to camp near Halfway. Reserve ahead during peak fishing seasons when sites fill quickly.

Many campers appreciated the clean, level sites and excellent facilities including full hookups and pristine restrooms. The location offers great fishing, boating, and family activities, though the steep terrain and winding road access were noted by some visitors.

Nice big spots on the river

If you fish and have a boat this is it!! Nice big spots, great facilities but the terrain is super steep, not much in the way of “beaches” and ability to enjoy the water without a boat. Road has many sharp curves but large rigs can make it there. Lots to do in the Hell’s Canyon area. I have a feeling this area gets really hot in the Summer months.

This is the Spot to Getaway

Campground in located in Brownlee Reservoir at the mouth of Hells Canyon Snake River area. Paved, level sights, water, and Electricity on site. Some areas very shady so check in advance. Boat launch at the campground, plenty of room for Kayaks also. If you like fishing, wildlife watching, and hiking this could be your spot. The showers and restrooms were exceptionally clean. Camp hosts came around introduced themselves and were very friendly. WiFi can be purchased thru the telephone company in the area for various fees.
