McKay's Bend Recreation Site

A little off 95. A beautiful drive. The place is so immaculate. Mr. Norm Jenson prides himself with caring for this place as his own. On the Clearwater River.

Full hookups bathroom and showers. In a canyon on river. Number 8 has river view but not much shade. Other sites with much shade.

This campground is just off Highway 12 in Western Idaho and very convenient. It’s a little close to the road but the traffic seems to be pretty quiet at 8:30 at night. It’s right by the river, which is very nice and it seems like there is good fishing in this river so that may be a plus. I do recommend this campground.

Beautiful, well kept grounds. If you have a seniors America The Beautiful pass, $9 gets you full hookups, showers and toilets. Short drive to town. Norm (host) is awesome and full of knowledge. Nice fishing river on the Northern side of the camp. Will come back.

DIRECTIONS: 18 miles east of Lewiston, Idaho at mile post 18.6 on U.S. Highway 12

Flat, quiet, clean, and cheap. 15 RV sites and 3 tent sites. Full hookup, clean and large shower rooms and restrooms.

Camp hosts are great caretakers and quick to greet new guests.

Plenty of trees for shade, easy drivable path down to the river, nice local neighborhood to stroll through. BBQ stands at each site and two large community fire pits. Paved site for RV (any size), concrete pad with table. 2 bars cell signal.

Check the pics for accepted passes that drop the prices by 1/2.

At 18 dollars I was skeptical before l arrived. Getting everything for 9 dollars is unbelievable but true.

This location is currently closed because of the recent fire.

Very nice no-reservation campground with a truly legendary host. (He won a national award for his campground hosting!) Clean and well-maintained bathrooms. There is some road noise; the campground is very close to Route 12.

Easy access off of Hwy 12 but far enough away so road noise was just a minor hum. Parked ClassB in site 15-no leveling required. Blacktop with concrete pad under picnic table.

We checked this area while scouting spots for our logging sports team.

There were very few tent site cams but a lot of RV areas.

When we scouted it out, it was totally full. Because there’s so few spots for what we wanted we decided our chances of getting a spot elsewhere on the first show was more likely.

We pulled into this site in early October with our RV, and unfortunately the site was full. But the amazing host, Norm (who's been the host there for 17 years!) let us park in a regular parking spot and dry camp. He even brought out an extension cord to get us electricity from a shed. 

Aside from that, the campground was mediocre. There is a patch of grass with a few fire pits for tent campers, and 12 or so RV sites. Showers were closed due to COVID. There's a dirt road that leads down to the river, which is scenic. But there's no particularly good spots to hang out on the river. 

Everything seems to cater to fishermen that frequent the area. Pickup trucks were pulling in and out of the campground from early in the morning to late at night, as people are heading fishing or returning. That wasn't great for us with young children playing around the RV and also woke us up early.
