Pine canopy covers most of the loops at Winchester Lake State Park Campground, where sites in the Camas loop tend to run longer and give RVs up to 60 feet more room to work with. The campground sits within Winchester Lake State Park, a forested reservoir set against rolling farmland in north-central Idaho, and draws a steady mix of anglers, paddlers, and road-trippers using it as an overnight stop on the way north. Sites vary in quality. A few are less desirable, but the longer hookup sites are consistently rated well by visitors who have stayed across multiple loops.
Fishing drives a lot of the traffic here. The lake holds bluegill, trout, bass, crappie, perch, catfish, and tiger muskie, and loaner poles are available at the visitor center for anyone who shows up without gear. No motorized watercraft are allowed on the water, which keeps conditions manageable for kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. Swimming is not recommended given the thick algae. Brock W. notes the campground has "most sites wooded and private," and the day-use area adds a covered pavilion, playground, and boat launch with separate parking.
Facilities are older but consistently described as clean across multiple visits and seasons. Pit toilets are distributed throughout the loops, with flush toilets and two shower stalls in a central building. The campground has water and electric hookups throughout; a dump station is located in town rather than on-site, which is worth knowing for longer stays. As Rich J. puts it, there are "lots of trails, picnic areas, and boat docks" to fill time beyond the sites themselves.
Site spacing is tighter than some other Idaho state parks, and the campground can fill up in summer. Reservations are available and worth booking ahead during peak weeks. AT&T users have reported around two bars of LTE signal. One reviewer noted significant erosion near site C64, creating a drop between the parking pad and fire ring, so leveling blocks are useful. The park is open year-round, though some loops have closed seasonally for paving and repairs.
