 Scout Mountain Campground is located on beautiful Scout Mountain at an elevation of 6,900 feet, just 13 miles south of Pocatello, Idaho. Scout Mountain is part of the Mink Creek area, a popular place for birding and wildlife viewing. Visitors enjoy exploring a variety of local multi-use trails.
## Recreation

 Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and dirt biking are very popular activities in the area. The paved 1-mile Scout Mountain Nature Trail loops the campground, leading to several overlooks. The East Fork Mink Creek Trail begins within the site and the Crestline Trail is nearby.
## Natural Features

 The campground sits high atop the Bannock Mountain Range in a scenic forest of Douglas fir, lodgepole pine and aspen, which offers partial shade. Summer wildflowers are abundant. A wide variety of birds can be found in the area, including the Western Scrub-Jay, Juniper Titmouse, Bushtit, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Mountain Bluebird, Green-tailed and Spotted Towhees and Calliope Hummingbirds.

 Cherry Springs Nature Area is less than 6 miles from the campground, with its pretty namesake spring, a stream for fishing, paved self-guided nature trails and picnic facilities. Mink Creek Nordic Center is about 5 miles away, with hiking and horseback riding trails in summer months and groomed cross-country ski trails in the winter.

The Best Camping Near McCammon, Idaho

this place is actually private land, however a very kind individual who owns this land allows people to use this land to have fun and snow mobile on. There is a warming hut that is open to the public along with two pit toilets, the warming hut has some basic furniture and a stove to keep you warm. In the winter there is always great people coming in and out of the hut. This place is very well maintained and the people as well as multiple clubs care for the grounds so it is always in a great condition

SO GREAT! 

We stayed on site #3, nice and shady, perfect walking distance to clean vault toilets, water spigot not far, and off the road so you feel tucked away. Nice sturdy picnic tables, latern stand, and great fire ring with attached grill, and an additional freestanding grill available. Loved that spot!

Perfect in every way!

We had gone up and had gotten site #20 which is the last site before exiting the campground. The site was quiet, and no one next to us. The vault bathroom was super close and there was a water spigot directly across from us. The site was a non reservation just first come, first serve. There are hiking trails close by and a natural spring close by. Our site had plenty of shade and privacy.  
The campground has 13 reservable sites, and approx 25 walk ins or 1st come 1st serve sites. It’s high in the pines but it’s also a 25minute drive to town in case you forgot something. 
We enjoyed camping at Scout Mountain and have already reserved for our next trip in 2weeks...

1st Time & Not My Last! 

Such an amazing experience. Pavilion with lighting and outlets for electricity ran items or even RVs. They have bathrooms on the site and it's handicap accessible. Wonderful for weddings or parties. Very affordable!

Affordable Group Campground

Very nice campground close to lots of trails for hiking and walking. Plenty of trees for shade. Well kept. 

Great place

Beautiful campground set high up in the Caribou National Forest. The campground is around 13 miles up a mountain from Pocatello- it took us roughly 30 minutes driving up curvy mountain roads to get up to the top. Be advised, our gps tried to route us off a dirt road half way up, but you just stay on the paved road all the way up. We got site 20, I’m not sure which loop, as the loops were kind of hard to determine. It was next to bathrooms and across from water and a group campsite which looked like it’d be awesome if you were in a group (site 19.) Beautiful in the pines and furs. You can’t see from the road but many of the tent pads are behind the tables and fire rings. The tent pads aren’t huge- Our tent pad wasn’t big enough for our 6 person REI tent so we pitched right behind our car on the parking pad, which was considerably larger. We were only staying for one night on a Thursday and it was very quiet with only a handful of other campers, but I saw reserve tags on most camp sites in our loop for the weekend. No showers, vault toilets. Drinking water. We tent camp so I didn’t see if there were any electric sites, ours was not. We saw cows, moose, birds and deer on the mountain. Wish we could have stayed an extra night to hike around the area. 

Beautiful basic camping in Furs and Pines 

Loved the campground. Close to hikes. Beautiful spot to enjoy the sunset. But - the campground host generator was loud and annoying on a Sunday eve right up to 10pm.

The campground is nestled high in the mountain with a small road to reach the site. Some campsite lots are more suitable for tents and the tree cover provides an abundance of shade. The cost is $20 a night per site. Bathrooms are vault bathrooms. Bring bear spray as the area is very isolated. Great campground all around!
