Bugs

This is one of many campgrounds along the Hickory Creek Trail in the Cohutta Wilderness of North Georgia. I want to start off with the fact that we were hiking in the area in late summer hoping to do a 3 day/2 night loop and enjoy some quiet time in a remote area. What we got was an overgrown buggy trail that wound through the woods and never really got anywhere. This area definitely could be beautiful in the right time of year and if there weren't so many trees over the trail but we didn't get to experience that. We lost the trail several times and ended up doing a 1 night hike in then hike out the same way we came in the next day. We passed this campground both times and thought it would actually be a really nice place to stay if you are there in a less hot time of year. If you are thinking of checking out the wilderness in late fall or early spring this site might be worth your time. The other issue with the bugs though is most likely due to it being right along a stream. This is a plus for backpacking but not for comfort in the summer. Overall, it is a spacious site for a tent or a few tents and has a firepit and easy access to water.
