Nice trails but camping close to road

Posted: hunting license, fishing license, or land pass required to camp. May purchase VIA website from camp.

Pulled in with the intention of staying, but after realizing how close the busy road was to the campsites, decided to sleep elsewhere

Cute campground, and enjoyed some of the trails. Looks like it might be a happening hunting spot

Camp sites and camping area in general seem a bit tight if it were full but might be nice for a large group

Side note, if in need of an outlet to charge anything in an emergency, it appears the (closed) hunting check in and check out area has active power (outdoor lights are on as well as interior digital clock) and an outlet is available on the porch/deck area

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make reservations at Almo Tract WMA?

No formal reservation system exists for Almo Tract WMA. However, to camp legally, you must have either a hunting license, fishing license, or land pass. These can be purchased directly through the website while at the campground. Since this is a wildlife management area, be prepared for these permit requirements which differ from typical campground reservation processes. For the most current information on permits and availability, check with the managing wildlife agency.

What activities can you do at Almo Tract WMA?

Almo Tract WMA offers several outdoor recreation opportunities. The area features hiking trails that visitors can enjoy exploring. As a Wildlife Management Area, it also supports hunting (with proper licensing) during designated seasons. Fishing is another popular activity, which requires a fishing license. Wildlife observation and photography are natural fits for this conservation-focused property. The proximity to a road makes this location easily accessible, though it may impact the wilderness experience somewhat.

What are the camping options at Almo Tract WMA?

Almo Tract WMA offers primitive camping with sites located near a busy road. The camping area is part of a Wildlife Management Area, which means it's designed for a more rustic outdoor experience. Sites are relatively basic and may not offer much privacy or separation from nearby traffic noise. Consider this location if you're looking for a simple overnight stay rather than an extended camping trip.

What amenities are available at Almo Tract WMA?

Almo Tract WMA provides very basic amenities consistent with its wildlife management area designation. There are restroom facilities (described as a "loo" in area documentation). The campground is designed for self-sufficient campers, so don't expect amenities like showers, electrical hookups, or water connections. The primitive nature of this campground means you should arrive prepared with all necessary supplies, including water and waste disposal options.
