Handy Stopover Right Off the Beltway

Rolling into the Home Depot on Lane Ave South in JAX feels like you’ve stumbled upon the Swiss Army knife of parking lots in that this place packs in a lot with the lot being big, flat and well-lit, with enough space for rigs of all shapes and sizes. Access from I-10 is quick (like less than a minute from exiting quick) and painless and the layout is straightforward, so you won’t find yourself playing Tetris with shopping carts or light poles. The lot surface is smooth and level enough to make setting up for the night a breeze, and it doesn’t feel like you’re crammed in, even if other overnighters share the space.

Immediate services are a perk here. You’ve got the Home Depot itself (tools, propane, last-minute camping odds and ends), and a few fuel stops nearby for topping off before the next leg of the trip. The store’s restrooms are fairly (but not spectacularly) clean and functional, lighting in the lot is bright but not blinding, and there’s enough foot traffic to feel safe without it being overwhelming. It’s a working-class part of Jacksonville, so while the area you find yourself in is not fancy, this Home Depot does the job and offers a secure enough vibe for a quick night’s sleep and being a stone’s throw from I-10 means you can get in late and out early before this place becomes too crazy busy.

Step out a little farther and you’ve got the basics covered: fast food, convenience stores and local diners along Lane Ave, plus bigger shopping (like the nearby Walmart) and better restaurant options within a short drive. The lot itself doesn’t offer much in the way of scenic charm (unless you count rows of neatly stacked lumber as peaceful), but it’s quiet enough overnight that you won’t be kept awake by constant traffic or late-night shenanigans. Best recommendation for parking at ease with nice peace& quiet would be for you to check out the NE corner, where it’s not only shaded, but furthest from the roadside traffic.

While scoring criteria may vary from one person to the next, here are the 5 most important criteria that informed my rating of this overnight location: convenience (EZ on- and off-access), safety & security, quality (of facilities), peace & quiet and amenities (either on-site or nearby).

Convenience: 4

Safety & Security: 3

Quality: 3

Peace & Quiet: 3

Amenities: 4

Overall Score: 3

Happy Overnighting!
