Hog Pen Landing

Within Osceola National Forest, Hog Pen Landing provides basic camping with direct lake access at $10 per night. This US Forest Service campground accommodates RVs up to 25 feet and offers both drive-in and walk-in sites scattered along the shoreline.

The campground features about a dozen sites of varying sizes, with roughly half offering lake views through moss-draped cypress trees. Sites include picnic tables and fire rings, while shared facilities provide pit toilets, trash collection, and a dump station. The dirt access road can develop potholes and doesn't drain well after heavy rains, creating puddles that affect tent camping areas. A boat launch provides water access for fishing and paddling.

Campers consistently note the presence of mosquitoes, particularly near sunset, though fires help keep them at bay. "Bob the volunteer host was super nice, and the bathrooms were very clean," reports Todd B.. The campground attracts hunters during small game season and serves as a base for forest exploration.

Crowding varies significantly by timing, with some periods bringing solitude while others see the campground fill completely. Ocean Pond Campground sits less than a mile east for campers preferring a larger facility with more amenities.

Visitors often highlighted the primitive lakefront camping with beautiful cypress-framed views and clean facilities at $10/night. Some campers noted drainage issues after rain and variable crowding levels.

Peace and quiet on the water

Had an enjoyable weekend tent camping here and small game hunting in the forest.

Bob the volunteer host was super nice, and the bathrooms were very clean.

The mosquitos were a little annoying right after sundown, but quickly left once we had a fire going.

Definitely camping here again and bringing the kayaks next time.

Lake Views, now $10/night

A previous review stated this is a free site - no longer! Camp host came around and collected $10/night when we arrived

  • big trees with Spanish moss
  • lake views for half of the sites
  • pit toilets
  • spaces are variable size - but we’ll spread out with varying privacy
  • doesn’t drain well! When we were there, we had some big puddles. Be careful if tent camping after a big rain! Road was fairly pitted.
  • mosquitoes but you’re right next to a lake!
  • there was a boat ramp/launch but we didn’t use it!

Remote, isolated, free

A primitive site with about a dozen tent sites or more. Trash cans and out toilets are on site, with pick nick tables each campsite. Dirt road access, dirt road/undeveloped area other than the tables, trash cans, and out toilets. Beautiful views to the east through missy covered cypress trees with palmetto and pine forest behind to the west.

Decent place

Its much better than the big camp ground across the lake. But it depends on what time you come, some days its nice and secluded and some days its packed
