Aim To Miss This!

If you are taking a drive as far north in Florida as one can get just due south of Yulee, Bow & Arrow Campground is located on Hwy 17, running parallel to I-95.  This is an RV park roadside drive-by that despite its rural location places one just right off a 4-lane trafficked road that has more long-term tenants than it does overnight campers.

As though there weren't a number of warning signs (pawn shops, ammunition and gun stores, bail bonds stores, etc.) to steer you clear of this place blocks away from arriving to Bow & Arrow weren't enough, once you arrive on-site, you will clearly be put off by the dilapidated condition of the main office, that is preceded by the near empty empty septic tank of a pool (growing by the day with encroaching moss) that sits at the entrance of this decrepit RV compound.

From dilapidated driving conditions (how do such big pot holes grow in such a place where traffic can’t go faster than 5 MPH?), blistering unkept restrooms (with doors that do not shut) and dank laundry facilities (where I think you’d get clothes dirtier, not cleaner by entering by trying your luck with the coin-operated machines), this maligned neighborhood of vehicular housing would best be avoided altogether.

While there are ample grassy spaces available in the old Oak shadowed RV pasture behind the main office, there are virtually no amenities apart from 30 / 50 electrical hook-ups and a community trash bin.  The only upside to this entire place is its proximity to some of the most amazing beaches in nearby Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach.

Insider's Tips?  Here's a few: (1) Don't stay here at Bow & Arrow Campground, but if you have no other choice (and trust me, you do!), then do yourself a favor and arrive late, but leave before the sun comes up; (2) Just a short distance away, you could find yourself staying at perhaps one of the most amazing campgrounds in the entire state of Florida at Little Talbot Island SP (less than a 20 minute drive from Bow & Arrow), and just 10 minutes south of that is an equally amazing campground called Huegenot Memorial Park - do yourself a massive favor and stay at either one of these camping havens!; (3) If you come with a kayak or canoe, I highly recommend dropping your watercraft down near Blount Island in the St. Johns River for some fantastic views (Mayport Naval Base being one of them); and (4) Should you run out of anything, just due south or east of Bow & Arrow, there are Publix grocery stores, CVS & Walgreens pharmacies, Walmart and Home Depots to pick from.
