Wading in Deer Creek, watching deer at dusk, and hiking toward Mt. Rosalie are the main draws at this forested campground in Pike National Forest, where the creek runs close enough to several sites that the sound of moving water carries through camp. The campground has 12 sites total, and roughly four or five of them sit directly on the creek. Those fill first. All sites are first-come, first-served, so arriving by late morning on a Friday gives campers a reasonable shot at finding an open spot, though by Sunday afternoon the place tends to clear out.
Sites are spaced well apart, which gives each one a degree of privacy even when the campground is at capacity. Tree cover keeps things shaded through most of the day, which also means cooler overnight temperatures. Picnic tables and fire rings are standard at every site. The Tanglewood Trail to Mt. Rosalie starts at the campground, and multiple reviewers have spotted deer on the property. No pets are allowed.
Facilities are limited but functional: vault toilets, a well water pump, and no trash service, so campers need to haul out what they bring in. claire notes that "the creek is right next to your site," which reviewers consistently flag as the campground's defining feature. Nightly fees run up to $28, which some visitors find steep given the minimal infrastructure. Nearby options include Meridian Campground to the east. Deer Creek works best for campers who want direct water access, shade, and a trail connection without hookups or services.
