The Best Camping Near Pueblo, Colorado

I have camped and gone boating in Pueblo many times.  A quick trip down from Colorado Springs and you're out on the water enjoying some fishing or water skiing.  Bonus in the summer is how warm it is in Pueblo so it's ver refreshing to hop into the reservoir to cool down.  Always a great time!

Boating 

This is a great park for fishing, hiking, biking, and swimming. Oh wait, even boating. The only negative I have to say is that some of the park camp hosts are very ignorant and can turn a beautiful camping experience into a nightmare. However, there are a few pleasant camp hosts and I/we appreciate their professional and caring attitudes. Nice place to take children of all ages.

Arkansaws Point Campground has great facilities, including showers, and is great for fishing, boating or mountain biking. Has RV facilities as well.

Really nice campground if you need a quick place to stay on the road, awesome views and nice facilities!

Nice spots with fishing, biking, and boating. The camp host John and his wife are incredibly friendly and helpful! Clean facilities and park.

A Little Bit of Everything 

We were staying at this campground because there was whitewater rafting in Canon City about 30 miles away.

We camped near some trees and there were only a few.There was a nature center and we saw a lot of rabbits around. Other campers were catching fish. The showers were clean and there was a laundry room as well.

Great place to go in Spring and Fall! Mountain biking/hiking/ awesome rock skipping! Easy access.

Nice during cool months

This is a great lake to fish, ski, camp and hike. Found a harmless whip snake in a tree. Last camp trip. But three rangers were great and relcoated it. Not many trees here for shade. Gets windy for tents. And hot and dry the summer. Hope you have a camper for shade and AC. Great events for the kids.

Barren oasis 

We go every summer when it’s hot.  we fish off our boat in the early morning, then we swim and enjoy the refreshing water in the heat of the day!

We pulled in without a reservation, no problem. We were visiting a friend in Pueblo and this place was close by. (Downtown Pueblo has a really nice riverwalk. Found a free museum that honored Medal of Honor recipients.) When you go in to the campground, the visitor center is there. Helpful staff. The RV side of the campground is to the left. That was pretty full. The tent side was to the right further down a paved road to the right. This section was closer to the lake, very few people and quiet. Might have been the time of year. Each site had a fire ring, a shelter and a paved place to park. Easy for us as well to use the dump site in the RV section. We didn't use it but looked like there were some walking/biking trails close by. Seemed reasonable for $25\. It was a nice find. Very clean.

This is a great campground if you have a boat and want to hang out on the water. Pretty good fishing. There is little to no shade at this campground and it gets wicked hot in the summer. The bathrooms and showers are great and the area has a lot of wildlife and bird watching.

If you boat it's great! 

We just left campsite 531 at Kettle Creek Loop! Our 3 kids loved playing around the little inlet of water and the playground was not too far! Very clean vault toilets close to that campsite and a bigger bathroom by the playground with showers! It’s a rocky tent pad so bring a footprint and sleeping pads. Shade provided over picnic table blocking the evening sun- it’s pretty sunny in the am but nice! It was HOT while we were there but it cooled off at night. Bring a shade tent! We will Be back!

This park has a little bit of everything! 

  

The campgrounds are nice:) Pretty open area, but nice amount of space per site. Each site has a picnic table, fire pit, and some shade. Sites near the water would be ideal!(unless you have a child- then I would opt for sites more to the inside of the campground area) Some sites are just a 1 minute walk to beautiful water views! Water activities, great hiking, wildlife(LOTS of prairie dogs), wonderful bike trail, boat launch, swimming beach! Cannot say enough good things about Lake Pueblo State Park! Only drawback is it is VERY busy on summer weekends… during the week it's much less crowded. The campground does fill up, so reservations are the best option.

what a fantastic park! 

We went early June and ended up having to come back late at night. The wind picked up and was insane. This would have been doable if we were in the trailer, but our tent just about blew away. Access to water was nice. Will try to go back another weekend. 

Open and windy! 

We stayed in Yuca Flats, site 459 for 4 days in July. 459 was a large site, kind of out of the way of other campsites but all  sites were nicely spread out and open. We had great views of the reservoir and distant mountains. Sunsets were beautiful and the nighttime show of stars spectacular! The picnic shelters, at every site, are a nice protection from the winds and sun. The bathroom/shower rooms are individual and tidy! This is rare and was much appreciated during Covid. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Sunsets and Starry Skies

Pueblo Reservoir has plenty of options for day use and also camping. Whether you want to boat, fish, swim, hike, sun tan or just chill with some scenery- you can do it here. 
It’s nice but sometimes has a foul fish smell depending on where you are in the park. There are facilities around and overall it was a pleasant place to spend weekends!

Good place. Hot in summer, but. Ice cool nights and mornings. Signage coming in was lacking. Web site and phone calls said “sold out” but there must have been 25 spots open that we could see. Electric, but no water. Nice showers and bath.

Hot, hot, hot and more hot. Okay, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way- the fishing here is great from the shore and a boat. You can spend a day just floating around on a tube, or simply drinking an iced cold tea under a shade structure. 

Just know. In the summer-it’s hot! 

Hot Happy Campers 

Lake Pueblo State Park offers 13+ miles of trails for hiking and biking, plus incredible access to Lake Pueblo itself. 

The Arkansas Point Campground is a great place to camp. Sites offer mostly level pavement and 20/30/50 electric hookups. There is no water or sewer at the camp sites, but community water is available throughout the campground as well as a portable water spigot at the dump station.

My advice? Plan to stay here for at least 3-4 days. You’ll want to extra time to hit the trails during the day and do some stargazing at night.

A true desert oasis!

A favorite camping spot for me and my friends. Paid reservations and you need to pay a daily parking fee unless you have a state park pass. Hot in the summer!! Juniper breaks is alright but we really loved the kettle creek campground much better. Just be aware the water pump in kettle creek shoots straight up, which is VERY nice when you’re hot because #pueblo

Park on a man made reservoir. Not bad, and better than an rv park, but I likely wouldn’t come again 

Decent Park but Lathrop to the south is better

**General:** One of three campgrounds at Lake Pueblo State Park, Arkansas Point is located on the eastern shore of the park and is easily accessible from the town of Pueblo. You must have a reservation but can make same-day reservations. In addition to the campsite fee, you must have a day-use pass ($10). Since we arrived after-hours, this was done at the self-pay station and there was no annual pass option with this method. 

  

**Site Quality/Facilities:** The driveways are gravel; some are back-in and some are pull-thru. Each site has a (covered) metal picnic table, fire ring, and electric hook-up. Site 5 was a good choice, with the exception being that the picnic table was quite a distance from the end of the driveway. Sites 7 and 9 also looked to be good, with the picnic tables closer. There are other sites that claim to have better lake views but these are also closer to the road. 

  

**Bathhouse:** Unisex bath/shower combos and they were clean. No soap dispensers and air-dryers only. Two hooks but it would have been better to have one closer to the shower. The shower was hot, however, be forewarned that the top button sprays water all over the bathroom so make sure you don’t have your clothes on the bench! The bottom button has a more direct spray. This happened to both my husband and me so it appears to be a design flaw. 

  

**Activities/Amenities:** There is a nearby marina if you are a boater. There is an extensive trail system used by hikers and mountain bikers, and most of the trails are well marked so that with the trail map, you can easily figure out where you are. We were passing through so other than one hike, did not take advantage of all this park has to offer but it is a scenic state park and worth coming back to.

Quiet in the shoulder season

This was first camping trip staying in a Colorado State park and it was great! We had an electric only back-in site next to the bathhouse which was clean and had 4 separate bathrooms with showers. Our site was located next to a water spigot but we filled our water tank in our RV before we got to our site. We had a fire ring and nice picnic table meant for 8 people! It was super close to the trails to walk my dog on and we walked down to kayak at the lake.

Great Lake Camping

So amazing and peaceful. Old camphost (they recently left) the old camp hosts were amazing and respectful. I always recommend Lake Pueblo there are idiots at the lake sometimes but its not the parks fault. Amazing park rangers and employees 

Peaceful and respectful 

Arkansas Point Campground at Lake Pueblo State Park is the closet to the state park office and marina. It cost $10 for a park pass plus you make your site reservations online. It offers 30/50 amp electric sites, with water fill stations throughout the campground. There is a dump station just as you enter the campground as well. Each site has a covered picnic table and some sites have a shade tree.

Bathhouses are very clean and offer hot showers. It does show a playground at this campsite but it has since been removed.

If you are going to take your boat and fish you can stay on the water 24 hours/day; however, to ente/exit the water your boat must go through inspection, so you want to be out of the water while the inspection site is still open. 

You can enjoy swimming off the beach area or choose to go hiking one of the many many trails they have. 

We stayed in site #62 and it offered shade as well as a water station next to it. This is a pull thru site. We would definitely stay here again.


Great Stop Over Spot

This campground is located in the state park.  It is nice with a great view of the lake.  Water is available to fill your fresh water tank and a dump at the exit.  No electric hook ups though at our site.  The pad is asphalt  in full sun and level with a fire ring and picnic table.

Some Hook Ups Needed

First of all, the sites towards the back, by the trails... yeah, get one of those. Trail access directly from those campsites. Also the best views. I had site 16, which was a pull-in site for a trailer, but for this night it was just my, my tent, and my dog.   
  
Speaking of trails, they're everywhere. And amazing. We had a weather front come in as the sun was setting, and the sky was alive with textures and colors. Morning found fog/ mist completely covering the lake, while cloud remnants stuck around to hug the mountains behind the campsites. Good stuff.  
  
Even for a fairly big campground, there is space and there is quiet. Maybe 'tis the season, but autumn seemed to bring out the best in everyone. And yes, it was cold. It's Colorado. High and cold come with the territory. There is a fire pit at each site, and a covered picnic table.  
  
Despite the view of the marina below, the few boats that were out didn't seem to make enough noise to overwhelm the campgrounds. I can't say I remember hearing any boats. Owls, yes. A coyote or two? Probably. Birds? Absolutely. Boats...? Not that I remember.  
  
The bathrooms were very clean, with showers. Thankfully another review mentioned the crazy shower spray though. I remembered that review just in time, saving my clothes from getting soaked. Water pressure is good and hot, just a little chaotic. Don't put your clothes on the bench.

Arkansas campground coma big difference between the three campgrounds if you want flush toilets and showers but the Arkansas one feel like motorbiking is right on your doorstep and the campground host seems to keep this place a lot cleaner than the other ones

Choose the right campground

We booked this site last minute and it was perfect! The grounds were quiet and people respected the Quiet Hours curfew. Each site has a covered picnic table to block the wind. The site we booked had electricity hookups. We stayed in a car tent, so we needed non-concrete ground to anchor our tent stakes - the sites are all concrete and gravel with a lot of grass surrounding the main driveway. We were able to park our SUV so that we had access to the grassy area without being intrusive to other folks. The showers are in their own bathroom - toilet, sink, trashcan, bench, towel hooks, and shower. I strongly advise to NOT place clothing or towels on the bench near the shower. The shower has a strong spray and it will get your items slightly wet if too close. The showers are included in your camping fee (aka free to use). There isn't anything to block the wind (except at the picnic table) so be advised weaker tents won't be comfortable. 

Quiet, lakeside RV camping

I stay here alot. I have been here longer then your supposed to be. I don't think they mind because I am here during the week and go to a basic site on the weekends. The lake is beautiful. The most beautiful sunsets and electrical storms. It's quiet. The only hookup is electric for me or camper. The water and dumpstation is on your way in and on your way out. The showers are big and many. The sites are all big and plenty of space between. Easy to maneuver any vehicle. The camp hosts at Arkansas point are great. They have a big school bus that belongs at Woodstock, they both fit their home and are the nicest people you will ever meet. My dogs got away from me once and she was helping me chase them down. You can park on the beach and let your dogs run and play a bit. During the week it's pretty empty, but on Friday to Sunday it's packed full.there is fire pits and tables with covers at every site. Huge cliffs behind the park with trails to bike or walk for miles or walk to the top of the cliffs( did it once thought I was gonna die when I got to the top). My only negative thing about the park is along with the 36.00 a day camping fee, it's an additional 10.00 per day parking few per vehicle. That included my rv, my truck, my trailer and my motorcycle.that makes it 75.00 a day camp fee per day. Makes it a little pricey. But if your just a truck camper or rv car it's not so bad.

Nicely spaced and sized level sites.  Good views of the lake and sunrise/sunset.  Super clean and warm bathrooms with no smell.  Very little trees so no shade.  They do provide a shade screen at every site.

Last minute stop

This is a beautiful state park. The only negative was we had to pay to get in the park after we paid to camp. 
The young lady that made our reservations was a sweetheart and so was the lady at the gate! We would stay again even with the crazy gate fee😃

Beautiful 

Parties late on weekeds, despite official  quiet times.  No rangers after 5pm.  If need one, call State Police to maybe get one on-call.   Do NOT hold your breath.  

  

Over 10 years EVERY State Park I tried to camp in had drunken parties late on weekends. CPW does not care.  

   

 Tent sites often have trailers with generators.  6am to 10pm.  🙄

Open spaces

We stayed on a Thursday night and the campground was somewhat busy, but you still felt like you have a lot of space. The spots are pull through which makes setup and tear down so much easier for camp! The views were AMAZING at sunset! The only downside is that there were some louder guests coming in after the 10pm quiet hour which woke up quite a few people around us too. As someone else stated before, try to get a site on the back towards the trails for the best views and more privacy. Also agree with previous reviewers about the extra gate fee. It would be nice if that was just added to the fee when placing the reservation. Overall great experience and we would come back if ever in the area again!
