## Overview

 Bogan Flats Campground stretches along the Crystal River in a valley of aspen groves, towering Ponderosa Pine, spruce, and willow. The setting is ideal for larger groups seeking recreation and relaxation in White River National Forest. Sites in the campground are widely spaced and offer a nice mixture of open and shaded spots, with several sites at the river's edge. The group site is located away from the main campground, offering a more private location.
## Recreation

 Crystal River, a tributary of Roaring Fork River, is renowned for its fly fishing. Rainbow, cutthroat and brown trout are plentiful in this waterway. A hike up Mt. Sopris offers spectacular panoramic views. This 12,953-foot mountain dominates the surrounding landscape. The hike is 14.8 miles with a 4,600-foot. elevation gain. In summer, wildflowers carpet the trail through aspen groves and mixed conifer forest, climbing up to talus slopes. Other popular activities in the area include jeep tours, biking, and historic sightseeing.
## Facilities

 Bogan Flats Group site has one site available for reservation. There is no electric hook ups and no water is available at the group site. Group Site users must go to the main Bogan Flats Campground to fill containers. Group site facilities include: hardened parking for approximately 10 campers/RV's depending on the size. This gravel area must accommodate passenger vehicles as well. The site has 3 regular fire rings, and 1 group size fire ring. 1 pedestal grill, 5 food lockers, 8 picnic tables, a double vault toilet, and a horseshoe pit.

 In the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the 2.3 million acre White River National Forest is a place of serenity and adventure, boasting 8 wilderness areas, 4 defined seasons, and 10 peaks surpassing 14,000 feet in elevation. The Crystal River flows near the campground and drains the Valley of the Coal Miners, a glacial valley that was once a center of coal mining in southwestern Colorado. Wildlife in the area abounds. Bighorn sheep navigate rocky ridges and bull elk bugle at dusk. Scenic rivers sustain populations of cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout. Alpine regions provide habitat for pika and ptarmigan. These species, along with many others, depend on surrounding undeveloped wilderness, clean streams, and diverse forests to live.

The Best Camping Near Marble, Colorado

Beautiful view!  We had space 21, right on the river - and it was wonderful.  Pull through and easy walking distance to the restroom but not too close.  We also want to reserve and stay in spaces 27 & 28 if possible sometime this summer. Very clean campground with great hosts!

Great small campground on the Crystal River

Every year, my family (+- 10 people) heads somewhere in Colorado to camp over Labor Day. This year we headed up to Marble, CO and stayed at the Bogan Flats campground. Though we booked fairly late, we were still able to get three stops (though not next to each other). We had an awesome time! 

The area was beautiful, right between Redstone and Marble, CO. The fall colors were already coming out, and surrounded by Aspen this area was stunning. A river also ran through the site, and if we ever go back we definitely plan to make a reservation early so we can get a river spot! But the hiking around the area, fishing, and activities were great. 

The camp hosts themselves were very pleasant! They kept the grounds very clean (outhouses, fire rings, etc. included) and were enjoyable to talk to. They also monitored the grounds and handles a totally full, very busy weekend well! 

I would definitely recommend this sight to any campers of any kind! (We had a tent, 2 campers, and a Sprinter van with us!)

Perfect fall location

Borgan Flats has it all. Great shady tent sites plus a number of RV sites. The Crystal River flows through the campground and you can fish right from many of the sites. Near by Marble has trails for Hiking, Biking, ATV and 4X4. Dont miss Slow Grovin' for some great BBQ!

Magic near Marble

We booked in January for Memorial Day weekend. Recommended because they were packed this weekend. Site 2 was big enough for our pop up and 3 other tents. Each extra vehicle pays per night. The amount of shade trees in this area is phenomenal and the rushing river next to the sites is an added bonus. Fun to go check out Beaver Lake in Marble and eat at Slow Groovin BBQ at least once. Camp hosts very nice, bathrooms very clean. We are locals so we look forward to enjoying this campground several times a summer, hopefully!!

Big Group Fun!!

We fell in love with Bogan and come back every year! It’s quiet and each secluded enough. We’ve seen some wild turkeys and deer up there.

Gem of a campground!

Wow!! we were right on the Crystal River. Every site had ample trees and shade. The stars were beautiful. The location was convenient to 4x4 and hiking trails. 

Right on the river

This beautiful campground is located in the White River National Forest near Redstone. A quiet location, with nicely spaced sites and ridiculously clean bathrooms. Our site, #26, was right next to the roaring Crystal River. The views are spectacular and the entire area is gorfeous. .

A river runs through it 

Lovely quite campground in the woods next to a river. We stayed on the side away from the river and I wish we had stayed on the river side, but it was still fantastic. No cell service, pit toilets, no showers. A little far away from civilization/stores, which is exactly what we were looking for. Site 10 setup is great, park near the picnic table and fire ring, pitch tent a little further up the slope under the trees. It did get coooold during early June, bring a good sleeping bag and warm clothes!!

Lovely campground by a rive

My husband, 10 year old son and I just finished 6 nights of rent camping at Bogan Flats campground near Marble, CO. Our site was right on the Crystal River, and it was both huge and private. We enjoyed listening to the river as we drifted off to sleep each night. 

The campground scenery was beautiful, nestled in between mountains all around. It was very green and did not seem affected by the drought in other areas. In fact, it rained all but 1 evening. The campground hosts were friendly and the bathrooms were so clean!! They didn't smell at all, which is pretty amazing for composting toilets.

We used this as a base area to visit nearby Marble to hike to the Crystal Mill, mountain bike in Carbondale, biked the Rio Grande Trail, rafted and hiked in Glenwood Springs, hiked and trail ran in Aspen. The scenery coming down 133 is stunning.  We would camp here again in a heartbeat!

Tips: If you tent camp here, make sure your tent is waterproof. We had no issues, but like I said, it rained 5 of 6 nights. Some nights, it was barely a sprinkle...our last night was a downpour. This is common for the mountains in Colorado in the summer. Also, make sure you are prepared for a fire ban. We knew this ahead of time, and had a gas stove to cook our food. The last item is that there are no nearby stores other than in Carbondale near 82. So, make sure you have supplies and ice before you arrive.

Fantastic week of tent camping!

Such a beautiful campsite that I hesitate to even review to as it will bring more attention. Make sure to explore the town of Marble. Situated along the Crystal River, I don't think I've ever enjoyed a campsite more! Just a stunning location. Although this site didn't have showers when I was there, I drove down the street to a nearby campsite (I believe in Redstone) &amp; used their showers. Do be careful if the river seems to be rising as it could be dangerous to your site.

My husband, two year old daughter, and I had a wonderful time at this campground. We were fortunate to get a site right on the river bank, but each camp site, whether on the river or not, had it's own unique appeal and we hope to be back to try them out. Bears are active in the area, so you do have to pack up all of your food in one of the provided cabinets; not a big deal, but something to be aware of. Like other reviewers have noted, the bathrooms are kept extremely clean and the camp hosts are wonderful. Absolutely recommend! There are lots of hummingbirds that aren't shy about visiting, so don't forget your feeder and nectar :)

Majestic beauty and on the river to boot!

Nestled at the base of towering mountains along the Crystal River this campground is full of beautiful sites. Although our weekend here was very rainy we still enjoyed the majesty of the surroundings. Sites are well spaced so you feel secluded and private. Restrooms were very clean. Lots of hiking and fishing nearby.  No cell service. Centrally located for exploring Marble and Redstone.  Be sure to visit the BBQ restaurant in Marble. Yum!

Beauty on the River

Bogan Flats is a great campground if you want to get away. Great for singles and families. Most campsites are large and allow for several families to one site. They were also semi private. The sites next to the river are the best. The sites closer to the entrance and on the river offer the best shade. My site #25 was next to the water and is an excellent spot for RVs, allowing you to drive through and park. There wasn’t a lot of shade though. At this altitude the heat wouldn’t be a big deal except the weekend we went the temps were in the 90’s. It’s about a 40 minutes drive to Aspen, 20 minutes to Carbondale (and phone connectivity), and 30 minutes to Glenwood Springs. Sleeping next to the roar or the river was wonderful. Each site offers a bear box, picnic table, and campfire rings. The vault toilets are kept clean. There is a faucet for drinking water and dishes. Its a fly fisherman’s heaven. I definitely will be back!

Loved it!

We really enjoyed this campground. We were in site #10 which was great though not on the water. Next time we will try to book next to the river, which is beautiful! Caught a couple fish at the end of the campground as well. The host was very friendly and helpful. We will be back!

Nice facility on the river

This review is not specifically for the group site but for the campground in general. 

I’m almost tempted to let my photos do the talking here. That’s because no matter how many words I use, they aren’t enough to describe the true unaltered Colorado beauty. 

The campground itself is pristine. It’s certainly remote but I loved it. The sites on the river side are perfect and the vault bathrooms are pristine. The sites are spaced out enough that it feels like true camping. 

Now- the area!?  Marble CO- about 6 miles up the road is the state’s best kept secret. I almost feel bad about letting it out. What a cool place!  No stop lights, no gas stations and no grocery stores but amazing scenery and real Marble laying around that you would never get bored. 

Again- I’ll let photos do the talking, but trust me and go! 

Bogan Flats Campground 

We loved our stay at Bogan Flats! We stayed 2 nights and got in late the first night. Our campsite was right on the river! I was able to just grab my fly rod and fish the river from camp! The staff was amazing and very accommodating. Perfect location for a jumping off point to explore around Marble, CO! We also loved having bear boxes at the campsite for our food and other storage needs! 

We'll definitely be back! 

A memorable experience

Great campground along the river. Some sites are shady, others are full sun which would be hot in the summer! Our site had a large area for hanging out, we could dip our toes in the water, and we had plenty for privacy from neighbors. No cell service. Water here has sulfur in it, so we just used what we had brought. Pit toilets were clean and camp hosts friendly. 

Just Beautiful

Reserved a few days ahead of time and had a great spot on the river.  Incredible view and an absolutely psychedelic amount of stars. 
A variety of RVs, trailers, cars, and tents were camping and while sites weren't all that far apart they offered privacy and quiet. 
Someone was mistakenly in my spot and the host was very nice and helpful getting that remedied.
Would definitely come back.

bogan is a great campground along the crystal river in the redstone/marble area. it’s busy and not all sites have river access. camp hosts were pleasant and left us alone. there aren’t many choices in this area so it fills up quick. make reservations well in advance. a must see area is the town of marble- beaver lake, the waterfall, rent a utv and drive to the crystal mill and ghost town of crystal. the whole area around the crystal river is gorgeous and a hidden gem in colorado that has far less of the hype and people from the aspen-maroon bells area. 

great campground

This campground is right off of the main road close to Redrock, CO. Tons of shade in almost every site with water faucets at every other site.  The river is very close but was running shallow when I was there.  Friendly host that was very helpful and gave lots of info.

River and mountain views

Check in was smooth and the staff was awesome. The host was super helpful and she was like the nicest person I’ve ever met. The spot didn’t have cell reception which was nice. The river was beautiful and we watched it all day. 

Pretty spot with a great staff

My family and I camped here in 2020 and are returning in August 2021. Right on the Crystal River and just 15-ish miles south of Carbondale. Sites are huge and have shade all day. Kids loved it. Dad loved the fishing access.

Shady, spacious and family-friendly 

We stayed at site 34 and had booked for an RV and a trailer, apparently this is not allowed, even though recreation.gov let me book it with both equipment types listed. The camp hosts were very gracious about it and even found us a new spot from people who were leaving early (I think it helped we had kids, they took pity on us ;) The vault toilets were very clean and spacious. The sites were a bit close together, about half were exposed, no tree coverage, and the other half were provided ample shade with lots of trees. Site 34 ended up being perfect for us because it was right next to a little forest and the kids ran around in there a lot, which they loved.

Stayed 3 nights! This is such a beautiful campground, right in the crystal river, tons of shade, huge camp sites with privacy. Our site really could have fit several tents and a camper…. And there was a little trail off to the side to get down to the water. Loved having coffee on the creek in the AM and wine in the PM. Easy to get to Carbondale, Redstone, and Marble from there. No service but that’s not a bad thing! I would really give it 5 stars but when I say the bathrooms smelled up the entire campground …. I mean constantly….. we wernt even super close to the toilets but we could smell them morning noon and night …. It was frustrating. I was in a tent and I wanted to small mountain air …. But I didn’t. When we walked around the campground i could smell it everywhere for all 3 days… so it wasn’t just our site. Kind of a bummer 

I loved it but …

This is a very busy campground, with people &amp; mosquitoes! We stayed in the first lot on the right from the entrance/exit. There were water faucets, but they are easy to miss. Bathrooms were overwhelmed. River was beautiful, but from our lot it was a very steep climb down to get to the rivers edge. Picnic table, fire pit &amp; bear proof cabinet did well to provide for a comfortable evening. Yet surprisingly the best bbq in Colorado is down the road at restaurant in Marble.
