Free and open year-round, BLM Cottonwood Campground sits along the Colorado River corridor off Trough Road near Kremmling, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The site provides drinking water and toilets, accommodates multiple groups, and has good tree cover for shade. Rafters and paddlers use it regularly. Nearby campgrounds include Mugrage Campground and Trough Road Dispersed, both within a short distance. Wildlife sightings are common along this stretch, and a natural hot spring is accessible in the area. It works well for campers who want direct water access at no cost.
Description
Situated among mature cottonwood trees along the Gunnison River, this campground has six campsites, including one ADA accessible site with an adjacent accessible fishing pier. Site amenities include a boat ramp (non-motorized watercraft only), shade structures, picnic tables, fire rings and a vault toilet. Camping is free with a 7 day/6 night maximum stay length.
