Boat-in access defines the experience at Ski Island Boat-In Campground, where campers must launch watercraft to reach their sites on Shasta Lake. The US Forest Service manages this established campground within Shasta National Forest, requiring boaters to navigate lake waters rather than drive to their camping spots. Sites sit near the shoreline, giving campers direct water access for swimming, fishing, and continued boating activities.
The boat-in requirement limits gear to what fits in watercraft, making this setup work best for experienced boaters comfortable with water-based camping logistics. Mariners Point Group Campground provides a drive-in alternative less than a mile away for those preferring road access to Shasta Lake camping.
Description
Ski-Island is one of four boat-access only campgrounds on Shasta Lake. Located near the Mariners Point campground on the Pit Arm of the lake, this facility is very popular during the summer months. Whether or not the access is difficult varies depending on the current lake level. There are vault toilets and no piped water. This is a pack it in, pack it out facility.
