At just $6 per night, Letts Lake Campground sits directly on the shores of its namesake lake within Mendocino National Forest. The Forest Service operates this first-come, first-served campground with a strict no-pets policy, making it one of the few dog-free camping areas in the region.
Campers find sites positioned close to the water's edge, though privacy between spots remains limited. The small lake prohibits motorized boats, creating a quiet environment for swimming and fishing. "This lake is amazing for Bass fishing!!" reports Susan R., who notes that waterfront sites fill up early due to their prime positioning. A one-mile trail loops around the entire lake, offering an easy walk with lake views throughout.
Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with paved parking pads of moderate length. Four vault toilets serve the campground, and drinking water is available during the operating season. Free firewood lies scattered throughout the area, both split and in rounds. The campground typically operates from late spring through fall, with water and trash service suspended during winter months.
Access requires navigating 19 miles of combined paved and dirt roads from the main highway. While most vehicles can make the journey, the final stretch involves bumpy dirt surfaces that challenge low-clearance cars. Graham W. managed the route in a 35-foot Class A motorhome, though he describes it as "a tight fit." Cell service remains unavailable at the campground, and summer temperatures can climb significantly above surrounding elevations.
For those planning extended stays in the area, campsites near Stonyford provide additional options within driving distance of the lake.
