Love this Lake

Great camping and fishing. Lots of smaller bass and trout. Nice remote lake with amenities. The M10 as down when we went up so we needed to take the M5 which requires a 4x4 high clearance vehicle.

Great campground

I have been camping here for 30 years. Great campground, very pretty, great lake access. The lake is very nice for swimming. No cell phone service at the campground.

Dry Campig for 35' RV

We originally were going to Fouts Creek Campground but it was HOV weekend (Presidents). Lots of dirt bikes and law enforcement. National Forest pulled in officers from surrounding forests and Sheriff Depts.

With a 35' Class A our options were limited. A Ranger suggested Letts Lake. There is a narrow one lane newly paved road that goes up to Dixie Glade equestrian camp, from there it is dirt. Taking it slow, we made it to Letts Lake and parked in spot 12. It was a tight fit, but we made it.

There are two additional campgrounds at the opposite end of the lake but they are closed for winter. As there was no water or trash service there was no fee. Typically $5.00)

The lake is small with no motors allowed but easy to walk around. Pet friendly in fact all but one campsite had at least one dog.  Fire damage to the forest is substantial but new growth is already starting

Quiet well maintained campground

Plenty of space to stretch out, even when more people showed up later in the evening. Nice walk around the lake, fishing wasn’t the best but still fun.

Great Bass Lake!!

This lake is amazing for Bass fishing!! There are only a few sites on the water, definitely get there early. All First come, first serve. We seen the sheriff patrol at least once a day here. There are vault toilets and drinking water. Firewood was available everywhere for free, some split, some rounds.

Great family time

Great lake to go camping with a family. Had great swimming and a nice little hiking trail. There are only a few spots so it makes it nice. Hotter during the summer months. Would be nice to camp either spring or fall.

Great campsite off the beaten path

Stayed here for 3 nights with our 2 toddlers and our dog. Lots of shade and some space between campsites. Only the lower loop of sites was open when we stayed here early April. Very dog and kid friendly. There's an easy trail that loops around the lake that's just over a mile long and a place to put in a boat in the lake (there's a bunch of fish in there!). The water was turned off during our stay but all the 4 pit toilets were open, no hand sanitizer. The drive to the campsite is a long 19 miles on combo of narrow paved and windy road and dirt road. 4wd wasn't necessary when we went but lower clearance cars might not fair so well.

Off-Season Camping on Letts Lake

I visited this campground during the off-season. Therefore, there was no one else at the campground, but I have heard that this is a very popular place to camp during the summer months.

The campground does not offer very much privacy between sites, but is right on Letts Lake, offering great views. There is an easy trail that surrounds the lake, but the surrounding area offers a wide variety of hiking. There are also many trails for ATVs. The campground has two pit toilets as well. Each site has a table and a fire pit. The paved drives for each site are moderate in length.

During summer months the area gets fairly warm. During off-season camping, I experienced temperatures between 26-34 F. Although it was a chilly camping experience, it was one I won't soon forget!

Worth the Drive

I always worry when I can't make a campground reservation ahead of time, but showing up on a Friday proved to be no problem. We secured two campsites with friends almost touching the water. Plenty of trees offered great hammocking, and the small lake was great for swimming. The trail looping the lake was a nice quick hike. One downside to this campground is the road driving in, which is bumpy dirt for about an hour. It is not impassable, though, as our friends were able to make the drive in their Prius. The landscape was breathtaking and the lake campground was much cooler in temperature than the surrounding area. The ATVers were not in our area at all. This was a lovely campground that I hope to visit again soon!
