Lake Piru camping is located in Ventura County, California, in the Los Padres National Forest next to the Sespe Condor Sanctuary. You would never know it floating on our peaceful lake, but we are less than an hour away from Los Angeles. Visitors to our campground can also enjoy the uncrowded beaches of Ventura, Venice, and Santa Monica. Lake Piru offers level tree-shaded camping sites, clean restrooms, coin operated hot showers and a fully stocked store to meet most camping and boating needs. Motor homes, trailers and truck campers are welcome. Lake Piru has paved roads, tree-shaded sites, and a convenient dump station. Our day use and picnic area includes lots of grass space to play, a playground, plenty of picnic tables, wooden awnings, a horseshoe pit and a 9-hole disc golf course. We also have Two Group campsites available for your family reunion & big get together. Please note that all campsites do come with a Picnic table & fire ring with a grill top.

The Best Camping Near Piru, California

Close to town but no cell signal, this place is amazing! Large camping area and I’ve never felt crowded ! Quarter showers and laundry, and a dog park! Lots of deer in the area and Great Lake to fish at! They also offer some hook ups for the rv campers

Lovely get away

Piru is one of the smaller lakes in the area, but it's location to the surrounding communities makes it one of the closest lakes to get to.

The campsites themselves are of ample size, with plenty of room between neighbors.

The lake can be a bit choppy mid morning to afternoon, we tried canoeing on it. Although it was fun it was a workout getting back to the shore.

Good sized campsites on a small sized lake

My least favorite and I camp alot. It's not the campgrounds fault. The California drought is the problem. The lake side is so muddy and slimy, its unappealing. The campsites are slightly shaded. Each site comes with a fire ring/grill and picnic tables. There are nice bathrooms, with coin operated showers and the campground is kept pretty clean. The kids loved the disc golf course and horseshoe pit. Nice hiking trails. Its about an hour from LA so its a nice weekend getaway without going to far.

Great campground outside LA. Weekly/monthly rates. 120 day max per year, seasonal limits. Full hookups at about 10-15 sites and the other 160 Mostly water/ electric. Deer in site nightly, many movie companies film here at and around the lake. Boating , fishing, disc golf. I spent a couple months here, off season and rarely did I have neighbors except maybe on a weekend. Most of the time it was 90% empty.

Nice water district Campground

Here is another great campground that is not far from Los Angeles. The great thing about camping is that you don’t have to go far to make it seem like you’re away. My kids loved this place. We arrived on a Saturday, and it was very crowded, but by Sunday, most everyone cleared out. We pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. Clean coin operated showers, flush toilets, and a nice sink for washing dishes were a quick walk from our camp site. The lake is also a short walk away for water sports and fishing. We had a great time here roasting marshmallows, making s’mores, and hanging out by the campfire. We can’t wait to go back. 

Would definitely go back

We went with friends and picked this site because it s close to LA and has electric hook up for their RV. The campsites are way too close to each other? While luckily it did feel relatively private, it definitely felt very crammed. There are flush toilets, but they are not the cleanest and didn’t always flush properly. There s plenty of water source for dishes, including a big sink, as well as coin operated showers and a small laundry area. 
There’s very little shade though, and if you go on a hot weekend, like we did be prepared to sweat! 
There is the lake which can be refreshing,but sadly, because of the drought the level was very low and the mud and slime made it somewhat unappealing.
There is, however a small convenience store at the dock as well as boat rentals, should you want to be a bit more adventurous.
Also there’s no cell service, unless you are with AT&amp;T, so plan accordingly.

Very Rugged Camp Ground presented with all that you need for comfortable tent camping. Plus fishing is good!

Rugged Camp ground!

Spots are spaced out, and the bathrooms are good. Camped here in early September, and the weather was great. Enjoy a walk around the lake, or head out onto the water for wakeboarding. 

Great spot on the lake

A bit cramped, but close to much of LA.  Far enough to see starry skies, and get some peace.  Clean bathrooms, and friendly staff.  Will go again.

Not too far out of the way

This place has a great vibe, it's beautifully maintained and very  clean. Plenty of great hiking trails!The rangers and staff are very attentive and pleasant.  Other campers there were awesome and fun too!

Sadly,  the water levels are down at the moment, but the camping portion of things were amazing!

Clean & beautiful

Hot in June and windy. Still a great getaway. Wish the swim beach was larger. The dock is fun to go out on. The store is small but has a few things. The lake is beautiful. Cows come through the picnic are. There’s a bald eagle nest nearby.

Clean areas. We were placed away from all the tent campers. Staff was friendly and helpful. Tighter spots for anything over 25ft.
ONLY AT&amp;T works. Wifi is $9/day for one device. No antenna channels found from our spot.

Decent Spot

This campsite is relatively populated and close to other camp sites. It's a little hard to feel like you're getting away with how close the sites are to each other. However, it was clean and a nice place to stay. 

  

This would be awesome for a family as it's sort of 'easy-mode' camping.   
  
For a group of adults looking to get away/escape I will not be going back.

Good for a family, mediocre for an adventurer

Campsite was established, picnic table,
 fireplace, and electricity. Floor is gravel in some areas so bring a rake or broom for tent area. Our site was pretty close to bathrooms that had showers. 1.50 for 8 minutes, uses quarters. Has hot water. Rangers drive by selling wood and ice.
