 Furnace Creek has 136 campsites with drinking water, picnic tables, flush toilets and a dump station. Each site has either a campfire ring or grill. A campground kiosk is staffed 7 days/week during the reservation season (Oct 15-April15). Campground Hosts are also available to help during our peak camping season. ## Natural Features

 Despite its morbid name, a great diversity of life survives in Death Valley! In this below-sea-level basin, steady drought and record summer heat make Death Valley a land of extremes. Yet, each extreme has a striking contrast. Towering peaks are frosted with winter snow. Rare rainstorms bring vast fields of wildflowers. Lush oases harbor tiny fish and refuge for wildlife and humans. Death Valley has sunk below sea level through geologic processes over time. It lies within the Mojave Desert and is the hottest, driest and lowest location in North America. Despite its extreme climate, the park boasts a diversity of ecosystems, including colorful badlands, snow-covered peaks, desolate sand dunes, rugged canyons and flat, dry basins called playas. Furnace Creek Campground is located on the valley floor. The terrain is fairly open with sparse vegetation. Some campsites do have trees that provide shade, but most are unshaded. The facility offers a wide mountan views to the east and west, which glow with hues of orange, red and yellow during sunrise and sunset.

 Explorers of all ages can enjoy educational programs and exhibits at the Visitor Center, just a short walk from the campground. Birders may have luck spotting local and migratory birds around the campground and along Airport Road, especially in the cooler months. Visitors can bike, walk their dog, or run along a one-mile bike path to an interpretive trail from the campground to the Harmony Borax Works, an abandoned borax refinery from the late 1800s. The campground is also within walking distance of the private resort, Furnace Creek Oasis and Ranch. 
## Charges & Cancellations

 Reservation Cancellations & Changes Cancelling a Reservation: Customers may cancel their reservation prior to arrival both on-line and through the call center. A $10 service fee will be withheld from any refund for a cancellation. Depending on when you cancel in relation to your arrival day, it may be considered a late cancellation (see below). Changing an Existing Reservation: When changes are made prior to the cut-off window: If a customer wants to switch dates that are entirely outside of the original reservation dates, there is a $10 change fee. There is no change fee if a customer extends or shortens a reservation, as long as the change includes dates from the original reservation. If they choose to depart early, they may forfeit the recreation fee for the day of departure. There is no change fee if the customer wants to switch sites that are the same price with the same reservation dates in the same facility. If a reservation is made that includes dates beyond the maximum booking window, that reservation cannot be changed until 18 days have passed from the original booking date. Late Cancellations or Cancellations within the Cut-off Window Individual Campsites: A customer who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid for the original reservation). Cancellations for a one-night reservation will forfeit the entire amount paid and will not be subject to an additional service fee. No-Shows Overnight and Day-Use Facilities: A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date (or for day-use facilities, by check-in time the day of arrival). Staff will hold a campsite until check-out time on the day following the arrival date. No-shows are assessed $20.00 service fee and forfeit the first nights recreation fee for a campsite. Early Departures If a customer departs prior to the scheduled check-out date, they may be eligible for a partial refund. Please notify staff at the facility if you depart early to allow others to use the site. Customers may notify the call center to request a refund of remaining unused nights. The Best Camping Near Amargosa Valley, Nevada

This is definitely the most popular of the campgrounds in Death Valley. Especially because you can reserve spots ahead of time. It's right by the visitors center. Has a variety of spots for RV'ers and nice spots for tents with trees.

Probably not the best place to camp in July as it is extremely hot. Found a nice tent spot (site 100) and set up our tent behind some trees. Some of the campground feels like a giant parking lot but the sites near 100 are nice.

The two sites I've had there have both had decent shade. I will caution though, prepare for severe wind. Gusts and steady wind strong enough to carry anything that isn't heavy or is aerodynamic.

Restrooms are nice, as are sinks outside. The visitor's center next door has frequent lectures and films. If you miss civilization, the resort has stores that are about a mile walk.

Don't camp in the late spring, summer or autumn unless you know what you are doing and are familiar with desert camping and extreme heat.

Wonderful campground in central Death Valley

Death Valley is spectacular. This campsite is only a short drive from Badwater Basin (the lowest point in North America!) and Artist's Drive, where volcanic deposits pain the hills with many colors. The campground itself is nice, and there are even trees for shade at most sites. The facilities are nice and well maintained, however you will need to go elsewhere to shower. The resort nearby offers day passes to their pool, a great place to relax and cool off!!

Cooking in Furnace Creek

My friends and I had a great time at the Furnace Creek Campground over this past long weekend in Death Valley. Fortunately my friend chose the perfect site (134), because some of them are very exposed and crowded together. There are some trees scattered around the campground, but some sites are far more shaded than others. Ours was a "walk-in" site, meaning that the parking was some distance from the site (maybe ~100 yards, not significant). Our site was in complete shade, while others were very very exposed, and the trees offered great privacy and even a spot to hang my hammock. The restrooms were a short walk away and the dumpsters were a bit further. For the walk-in sites, each site has one dedicate parking spot, but there is an overflow parking area for additional cars. They did not seem to closely track how many cars each site had, but people seemed to do a good job of self-regulating. As for the campground itself, it was pretty centrally located and we got to the main sites pretty easily from there. It is right next to the visitor center and close to the Furnace Creek Ranch, where you can find a grocery store, saloon, and even a pool with showers that non-guests can use for a $5 fee. We were a short drive away from Golden Canyon, Badwater Basin, and the Devil's Golfcourse. Stovepipe Wells and the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes weren't terribly far either. The Racetrack was quite a long drive away, however, about 3 hours (much of that on a rough, unpaved road).

**Campground Review:**

There's really no other way to put it- camping in Death Valley kind of sucks.The ground is harder than concrete (almost), it's hotter than Hades (I mean, I guess... I hear Hades is quite warm), and it's generally not a particularly relaxing experience (I suppose it might be better in the winter... so go in the winter).

That being said, the NPS has done a fairly decent job making this campground reasonably comfortable. There are water stations throughout, clean bathrooms, and as much shade as can reasonably be expected - though personally I'd love to see an implementation of the covering they used in the parking lot in the campground. We've stayed in many campgrounds throughout the west with covered areas and I think it would have a huge impact on the campgrounds at Death Valley. 

Personally, I would say that if you plan on camping in Death Valley, you should either plan on visiting in the winter, or bringing an RV. The RV sites at Furnace Creek are excellent, with nice pull-throughs and a good amount of space. That, or bring along a homemade swamp cooler or air conditioner of some type, because otherwise you're likely to be quite miserable. (Just being honest! And I do recognize we're pretty crazy for camping there in the first place.)

**Product Review:**

As Rangers for The Dyrt, we get products to test from time to time, and while in Death Valley we tested out [Boost Oxygen](https://www.boostoxygen.com/). We specifically tried out the peppermint flavor, as it boasted a "cooling" sensation. I'll admit I went into this demo a little skeptical- but I was pleasantly surprised. It may have been my mind playing tricks on me, but I felt much more awake and energized after inhaling the oxygen. This was extremely helpful on the long drive home to Utah when the sun went down and I was TIRED.

We tried the larger bottle and the smaller bottle, and I think the larger bottle is easier to inhale from, but the smaller bottle fits more easily in a backpack or camera bag. I think this is a great addition to a hiking pack, especially for those who live at higher altitudes like we do! You never know when a hike might hit you, and it never hurts to carry a little bonus oxygen, especially when it's INSANELY light.

Ranger Review: Boost Oxygen at Furnace Creek, CA

Can you go wrong in Death Valley in December when it's not above 70 degrees? This was our first camping trip to DVNP. We decided to come here because a massive snow storm hit our original target of Zion. Though the first two campgrounds in Furnace Creek were full, we were relieved to have snagged one of the walk up sites. We got there just in time for sunset and gladly ate in the valley while we explored the resort area. The camp site was great, clean, and the bathroom facility had what we needed for the stay.

Can you go wrong in the Valley?

The place was very bare and pretty hot. A few tall bushes and patches of trees around made for some good shade. But not very much. A lunch bench/table fire ring / grill. There are restrooms and drinking water but not very many. Fortunately you can park right next to camp. The place was pretty empty the time we were there. We went late April. Sunset evenings was nice and weather was comfortable. About an 75 degrees F with a beach like wind gust. This made it super comfortable at the dunes. The camp spot is really just a spot to take a break, and head out to explore death valley. I wouldnt stay there longer than 1 night, and only at night, specially between march and november. Although would make some good star pictures.

Large sites near Furnace Creek village...store, restaurants, gift shop, post office, golf course, and more...large outside sink to wash up after a long day of hiking...unbelievable sunrises and sunsets...best campground in DVNP. Some trees with little shade, so it’ll be scorching in summer...was 116 degrees at 7 pm when we checked in, but we sucked it up...had moonlit night hiking to ourselves with no competition for trails.

Badwater Basin at night BEFORE the moon comes up will blow your mind. Plan your trip to coincide with a new moon or late moonrise.

Large Sites

I camped at this campground 3 times in the month of mid/late April and it was absolute perfection. The weather was ideal. The location is in a prime spot to all the hikes and spots we wanted to explore. All the campers were so friendly and sweet. A very enjoyable experience and I can’t wait to go back again next April!

Perfect spot

I've stayed at this campground a few times and love it. There are bathrooms close by and pay showers at the hotel within walking distance. Some of there spaces even have good tree cover. It's a great place to stay if you are planning to explore Death Valley. I would definitely stay here again.

TIPS:

You will do lots of driving getting from one trail to the other in Death Valley so get started early

Make sure take lots if water EVERYWHERE

Take advantage of the showers, they cost around $7, bring cash!

Great location, very quite.

What can I say you are in Death Valley where the heat can get so insane you can feel it collapsing your lungs and melting your face but at this campground that can be a lot less of a problem as you are welcomed with the temperature at the visitor's center. Sure it is still hot and miserable most of the time, but what better way to embrace it than to just let it all hang out so you can see it.

I was very interested in this campground just inside of California when I was staying in Nevada over the first part of the year, it had great reviews and looked like a nice campsite. When I arrived I was not disappointed at all it was well kept, offered some shade and had nice even sites for tents or RVs alike.

Unlike my usual desire to have no amenities, I feel like staying in place like this I need a few luxuries just in case. So it was nice to find sites with electrical hook ups and potable water. The electrical hook ups made it nice for having a small fan which didn't rely on batteries which can drain quickly and that made it more than comfortable on the hot evening.

Where my tent was located the short shrubs provided a nice wind break however I did notice in some of the more open spots it can get a little blustery and we noticed several dust devils popping up across the area in the distance, very common for this region.

The campsite does accept reservations however when we were there mid week in late spring it wasn't packed so no reservation was needed.

I did notice that some of the areas were marked with heat warnings which included closure postings during certain times and warnings about temperatures after 10 a.m. I was fortunate in that it wasn't terrible just yet but already it was beginning to get that way despite it being spring. By summer I would not recommend staying here unless you were able to get inside of an RV it would be far to hot for myself in my little tent.

TIPS:

* Keep hydrated when staying here or at any of the Death Valley campgrounds.

* Obey postings of warnings, they are there for a reason!! We were listening to a ranger in the visitor center and he was telling us some statistics and it was enough to make you want to listen to everything you hear them say!!

* Fuel up before getting to 1/4 tank anytime you are entering the Death Valley or Mohave area you never know what will happen and you would rather be safe than sorry in case you are rendered stranded , at least with gas you can rely a bit on your air.

You always know how hot is at Furnace

We camped there in April so it was not the hottest time for Death Valley. It is a pretty big campground, but our site was more on the edge under some trees so it was perfect shady spot. Clean and nicely spaced sites. Nice and quiet most of the time. Our site was close to restrooms and a big washing/sink area so it was very noisy in the morning. It may depend on the crowd who were camping at that time as there were big groups of tourists speaking loudly early in the morning. It was a little crowded for my taste, but it was a nice campground in the middle of the desert. Visitor Center, gas station and a general store are nearby so it is convenient location and a great resting camp location after exploring the hot desert. There is so much to see at Death Valley, but make sure to check out cool places like Rhyolite ghost town.

A little oasis in the desert

We camped in March, and the daytime weather was perfect. just make sure to bring lots of layers for nighttime.

Within walking distance of the camp are some sand dunes that are fun to run down. There’s plenty to check out in the area: hiking trails, a visitor center, nearby locations where Star Wars scenes were filmed, and a past borax mine. 

This campground allows dogs as long as you keep them on a leash of 6 ft or less. Just make sure you bring a travel water bowl and paw protection. When the ground is too hot, paws can burn, and dog booties help keep paws safe. Also be careful about the coyotes, which frequent this campground.

Lovely place to camp in winter 

This is one of the best campgrounds I have stayed at. We stayed at a group site and had easy access to restrooms and a huge outdoor dishwashing sink. There was also a dumpster close to the site. Our site was surrounded by trees/brush so pretty separate from other sites. We had a bunch of picnic tables and plenty of space for our two big tents (could have easily fit a ton more). We slept outside without the tents since the weather was so mild, the breeze at night was beautiful, and it was just a little chilly, so perfect for a fire. The grounds were nice to walk around, and the sky at night was amazing. The camp store down the road had groceries, clothing, firewood, and everything else we needed during our week or so long stay here. Remember gas in death valley is crazy expensive so fuel up before you get in.

Best campground in Death Valley. It's still crowded and can be noisey during the day, but pretty quiet at night. Great stargazing! We were lucky enough to get a campsite with trees, provides much needed privacy and shade! Great restrooms, fire pit and table at each site. RV spots as well. Dumpsters and store nearby.

Decided to explore Death Valley since the weather has finally cooled off. Over two days we managed to see: the sand dunes, badwater basin, zabriskie point, ubehehe crater, and artist’s drive.

Ended up sand boarding!!!! It was so much fun!!! Definitely bring your board with you to try it out.

We camped at furnace creek campground, which was conveniently located in the middle of the things we wanted to see. They don’t take any reservations during the summer and charge $22 a night. Definitely worth it. Just make sure to check the weather before you go as it gets REALLY HOT!!!

Simply magical 

Stay the last weekend in Oct, and the campground was completely full, so definitely book in advance. As for the campground as a whole, it is in a pretty good location. It's pretty much directly in between the Mesquite Flats Sand Dunes and Bad Water Basin. It's also directly adjacent to the visitor center with a restaurant and gas station near by. As for site 56 in general, it's probably one of the better sites. Site 56 has some of the most shade in the campground, which is hard to come by, and is also close to a water fill station and the restrooms without being so close you get all the traffic. The only complaint would be the size. It's can definitely be cramped if you have more than one tent and vehicle.

Great stay

We scheduled for the wrong night by accident. The campground was full but they gave us an auxilary spot that's saved for emergencies. The staff was excellent. Bathroom were clean but had no soap.

The scenery at the campground is super cool with big rocks right next to some of the sites. The spots are small, really small, and they're stacked up next to one another. I can imagine during a busy time this would be a loud spot.

My husband and I were at Death Valley 8 years ago (2011) staying in Furnace Creek hotel rooms. This year (2019) we returned with our tents as part of a California National Park tent trip and wow were we surprised! The park has had a major renovation with great shopping and options for your stay.  With our senior park pass we get into the parks free and camping is 50% off, so our two night stay was a whopping $16.00. We drove up to the newly remodeled inn that has rooms for 350-600$ a night, and while we were there, someone was arriving via helicopter, truly a luxury resort. We learned that the owner of the LA kings hockey team has purchased the resort and has many improvements planned. 

We were reminded how far everything is within the park, you may choose to hike a trail and it may be an hour or two drive away, there is gas in the park, but you may a nice price for it! The main gas station in furnace creek had gas for $5.46 per gallon, however gas at the stovepipe wells was only $4.21. 

We choose the hike to zabrieski point for sunrise and sunset, the natural bridge (very rough road) and the 8.5 round trip hike to wild rose peak which was very challenging. 

This year, Scotty’s castle is closed until  2020 due to flood damage, so we were happy we had seen it on our prior visit. 

We camped at furnace creek campground which is one of the few open after Memorial Day and is first come, first serve, no advance reservations. We arrived around noon and most sites were available, however later that night, most were occupied. The campground has many toilets with running water and flush toilets, and there is a dishwashing station by most bathrooms. There are tent sites and full hookup sites. There are trash dumpsters with areas for recycling and empty propane containers.  Each site has a picnic table and fire ring.

There is a golf course, swimming pool, horse riding (closes in May), many nice restaurants and a spa.

Here’s the best deal, for 10$ per person you get a pool and shower pass for all day! The pool is awesome, spring fed warm water. The showers have massive pressure with hot water. 


The new Death Valley, May, 2019

This is beautiful desert floor campground in a national park with 136 sites &amp; 18 hook-ups, washrooms, water supply &amp; fire pits.

The sites are large enough for big tents but the RV’s are close by so keep that in mind if you are looking for a quiet spot. I found that the sound of the RV’s didn’t bother me too much but I was aware they were there. 

The bathrooms and water sources are great! The nearby store is air conditioned and carries ice cream, which is nice in the daytime heat after a beautiful hike through marble canyon or playing on the dunes! 

The sky at night is incredible! I’ve been to a lot of places but I have never experienced the Milky Way as incredible as it was in Death Valley! No light pollution really helps! 

The ground is hard, so bring a mallet to stake your tent down. We got stuck in a sandstorm at night and ended up hanging out in the tent playing card games till it passed. It was no joke though, we woke up with a layer of sand on us, inside the tent. 

Big skies for stargazing

The walk in sites have a lot of sweet camping spots. Great views of the desert and mountains, space between sites (little privacy though), even some scrappy trees for decent shade, and dirt that was very stakable which is necessary for the sometimes high winds. Area is separated from RVs and generators. Walk in is a joke and the walk is close to cars, no problem unpacking. The sites on the outer loops are best, the ones close to drive in sites just have a view of drive in sites. Also, the drive in sites suck. Packed gravel and RV hell. 

Sinks for washing are fabulous. Toilets are fine.

Great "walk-in" sites

This is where most people come to stay when they are in the park.  Can be corwded and if you are a tent camper you need to pick a site far from the generators of the massive number sof RVs.  There are good tent sites with space and protection.  But there are also tent sites out in the open with no cover or shade.  Choose wisely. The wind can be as much ot=f a factor as the sun.

  

I am one who like solice so a crwod is not for me.  

  

Positives are that you are near the Furnace Creek Resort so you have access to a store, a restaurant and gas.

  

Also it is a short walk to the visitor center which allows you acces to the most up to date info on what is open in the park.  I always stay a day or two here to cover the sites on the southern end of the valley.

  

When there is super bloom this is wheer you want to be  - easier access to teh bloom sites.

Crowded and Busy

Not much to the campground but your really not there for the campground. We went in January 2018. The weather was great. Lots to see and explorer. Pack well it gets cold at night!! The resort close by allows the campground campers to use their pool and it’s heated!

Got to do it at least once!

I stayed here for a couple nights during Thanksgiving week, and it was pretty full.  We made our reservations only a few weeks in advance, so we didnt have the best pick.  Though, I cant complain because our site had shade, and I think there were sites that didnt have good shade.  We were pretty close to a few other sites, so it was cozy.

  

It's very convenient to all the popular sights in Death Valley, so I highly recommend it if you want to hit them all up!

Convenient to popular attractions

I've camped here many times and have always liked it here. It is in the center of all the attractions. Can be a little noisy with the crowds and RVs. 

We decided to come here one year in early September last year and it was still pretty hot even at night. We were tent camping and it was difficulty to sleep due to the heat. We did a walk in site and there were plenty openings. In the middle of the night there was a sudden dust storm so we had to pack up the tent and equipment quickly. There were 2 or 3 other tent campers and they also packed up. We ended up just sleeping in the car that night, lol. The RVers were fine. 

Other than that it's a great campsite. Haha. Close to the visitor center as well. Clean restrooms.

Nice campground

This campsite has a ranger at it which is neat because someone is checking who comes in.. by the way make sure you pay at the pay entrance because if you pull up where without have paying you can get in trouble... we have National park pass so that’s N easy route ALWAYS! Anyway this camp ground has all the things you could need for a campground. Bathrooms, showers, fire rings, bbq grills and trash.

Stayed for two nights in a 22’ RV at one of the full hook-up sites. Next time I come back to Death Valley, either RV or tent, I’ll probably stay here. 

Location is amazing. There’s a gas station and general store close by to pick up any supplies you’d need. About a 30 minute drive from the Mesquite sand dunes and Mosaic Canyon, about 20 minutes from Artist’s Drive, 25-30 minutes from Badwater Basin, 10 minutes from Zabriskie Point. You’re close to tons of things but we also got killer night skies once we walked a couple minutes away from our campsite.

No wifi, expect limited cell service. You can make reservations online.

Perfect Campground in Death Valley

Very nice grounds with some connected spots, right in middle of the “town” in Death Valley, pretty close to the more popular exhibits.

Oasis

Quiet but hot

Perfect base camp for exploring Death Valley National Park. It's located a quarter mile from the Furnace Creek Visitor Center where you can check in to pay the park fee and ask the rangers any questions. They always post the current weather and encourage visitors to stay safe in the heat. It's about 20 minutes from main attractions in the park including the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, Zabriskie Point and Badwater Basin Salt Flats.

  

Campground Pros: Nice bathrooms and large sinks for dishes (also with potable water), Sizable camping spots, great location

  

Campground Cons: Very little shade, plan to bring a canopy if you are tent camping, no showers

  

Overall a great campground - just make sure you're visiting when the weather is decent. Super hot temps can ruin the experience pretty quick - and fill your tank before you drive into the park!

Great Campground for Exploring Death Valley

It's quite and clean campground, but doesn't have trash can inside restroom, those are place close to entrance so we have to drive over there. Water station beside restroom so you can wash your dishes there.

It's a quiet campground even It's full

This campground is right in Death Valley and has low prices but limited facilities as you would expect in the National Parks. There are 136 sites all with picnic tables and fire rings. There are flush toilets, water and an RV dump station on site. 9 back in RV sites have hookups and there are 9 pull through sites with hookups. There is a visitor center and small store within 300' of the campground. There is a gas station a short drive down the highway. There is very little shade. Be sure to have an awning of shade cloth with poles as it gets warm.

  

My site 055 shares a paved pad with 054. This would be great if you are camping with someone in another RV.

  

Get up early for sunrise at Zabriskie Point.

Furnace Creek, an Oasis in Death Valley 

The best part about the campground is the location! Super easy to get to all the great sights. We were tent camping in site 14 which has an RV spot, fire pit and a picnic table. We were across the street from the bathrooms and they are flush and have a dishwashing station. The campground was quiet even on New Year’s Eve! Great December camping

Nice and quiet

This is a nice place to start your tour of Death Valley. We stayed in site 85 with our travel trailer which was close to the toilets and wash station. The site was roomy and level. There isn't a lot of vegetation, so you always have other campers in your line of sight. Unless you are a tent camper - those sites have nice trees around them. The site had a picnic table and fire ring, and was pretty easy to back into. You can see beautiful mountains all around, and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. This campground is walking distance to the Furnace creek visitors center, the golf course and the 19th hole bar and grill. On T-Mobile I had 3-5 bars of 3G (so basic text and email), and I heard my neighbors complain of being on Verizon roaming.   

It's important to note that the campsite does not have showers, and does not allow water on the ground at all - so you can't use your outside or solar shower. If you want a shower you need to buy a day pool pass at the Furnace Creek Ranch nearby ($14) or Stovepipe Wells ($5).    

I think that the best option if you will be in the area for a while is to book a spot here for one or two days, then move to Texas Springs nearby or the other first come / first served campsites, or boondock areas after you have done some exploring.

Central and easy

My brother and I stayed here in January 2022 and loved it! It was surprisingly chilly but the tent only loop was nice and peaceful with only a few other campers there. The restrooms (no showers) were clean and there’s a dish washing sink for camper to clean their dishes with. Camping was cheap (I can’t remember the exact amount but it wasn’t a lot). It was first come first serve though. 

Each campsite has a fire pit and a picnic table. Sites are pretty level. There isn’t that much privacy which is to be expected since it is the desert. Either way, very nice campsite! I’d definitely come back 

Nice and breezy in the winter

Spaces were roomy, pull through had plenty of room for our tow vehicle, trailer and another vehicle. Good sized area with picnic table and enough space for a large pop up and tent. Full hookups were nice, be prepared for high temps even in the spring. It was over 100 in April but the overnight temps were very comfortable. 

Furnace Creek Death Valley

This campground location was ideal as it was right next to the visitor center. Like most NP camp sites, they are pretty close to one another. Most sites had no or little shade and you’re lucky if you get one with a little bit of brush to hide from the beating sun heat. The picnic tables are metal, which doesn’t make sense to me given everything gets really hot in the desert. Fire pit was also provided, but we didn’t use. There are few bathroom locations within the park, they were cleaned daily and very basic, but with running water. You have to dump your trash all the way near the front of the campground. RVs with generators made a lot of noise and were not separate from tent sites. The stars at night are amazing! 

Drawn to the desert

Thanks to a SUPER accommodating NPS fella, we got site 111 for a couple of nights during the Dark Sky Festival. It's dry camping, which suited us for the short stay. We were stoked to be next to a little road that led to a nice birding spot and the little airport. Super charming...

  

Until the generators kicked on! I was bewildered, because I hadn't realized that there's a private campground right across that little road. If you're after a little peace and quiet, book on the opposite side of the campground. 

  

Proximity to the main visitor center is a huge plus, as are the two nearby dump stations. It's not in a particularly beautiful part of the park, which is huge. You'll need a car to explore. We biked to a couple of trailheads, but the park's scale really does force you into car mode.

No generators allowed...unless you're across the street!

Furnace creek was a great campground to be central to a ton of different places in Death Valley. It was a busy campground with lots of other campers. Great sunset views!

Perfect Tent Site

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at this campground. Sites have fire rings, picnic tables and level asphalt drives. Rest rooms are not modern but they are always clean. I only gave 4 stars because there are no showers.

I wasn't able to stay here as it was full, but I did want to let others know of a good option nearby. 

  

There are two other campgrounds pretty close. One is called Sunset and is right across the road. It did not look very interesting, but you could walk from your site to the Death Valley Ranch, which has a saloon, restaurant and nice little oasis like setting for those looking for some shade and to grab things. 

  

I did stay at the Texas Springs Campground, which is just up the hill, about a 3 minute drive away. Was a bit more interesting with the setting amongst the hills, etc. with a bit of a view. It is a first-come-first-served, but seemed to have plenty of spots mid-day, mid-week, beginning of April, if the NPS is full. Also, great proximity to many sites in the National Park. Hope that helps!

Was Full, But Other Options Nearby!

I love that they have separate parts of the campground for RVs and tents so you don’t have to hear generators if you’re tent camping. Our site had some trees that we pitched the tent under for shade. Bathrooms were clean with running water and a dishwashing area too. 

Awesome campground 

This is just an extraordinary place, Death Valley. Takes you out of yourself and your sense of human history completely. 

  

The motels and campsites were always subpar. They act, to this day, like only hardened stoic geologists would want to visit.  This campsite is actually better than the so called “motels’ available. It’s not a great place, but BRING ALL your creature comforts and you’ll be thrilled to be in the middle of the all the hiking and road trip thrills. 

  

I am writing this in fall of 2024. That means you should book Xmas 2025. Or else, really stay somewhere else entirely and expect a drive. 

  

And yes, when you have the winter blues in January, this is just an incredible visit.

Death Valley deserves better but in the meantime, this is it

It's a huge campground, a whole section was closed off when we were there. It's worth driving around to find the best vacant spot, as there are a few trees giving much needed shade. There are flush toilets, and running water. It's nice and close to the visitor centre, and to zabriskie point. It was quiet enough in Sept on a weekday, but I wouldn't fancy going there when it's busy. 

Great location to explore the park

Stayed here my first night at DVNP. There was a high wind event happening and most of the spots with tree coverage. It’s all FCFS right now so that was to be expected. All the sites were level and paved with dirt areas and picnic tables. The ground was too hard for me to get my tent stakes in so I didn’t put up my tent because of the wind. The bathrooms were clean and many of them around the park. Some RV hook up spots. This is a popular campground apparently and because it’s FF there was LOTS of traffic well into the night with people hoping to find any spot. Because of this constant traffic I wouldn’t stay here if you’re looking for peace and quiet and some star gazing. It’s a great spot for central location to the surrounding park though. And one of the few places in the park with decent cell service, at least for Verizon. 

Good if you need amenities 

Had to pull in here for the night during the ‘25 shutdown. Was able to easily get out 38’ class A in and had a great night with the awesome breeze and bright full moon. The campground is very well laid out and clean. 

Clean and great location

Many memorable and wonderful nights camping here with family and scout groups. Easy to pitch tents in the soft ground, smoke trees provide shelter from the fierce winds that occasionally whip across Death Valley, and the stars at night are beyond belief in their sublime beauty. Good amenities like restrooms, dishwashing stations, and stores close by, as well as access to major attractions. We had a cute little kangaroo mouse in our site one year. Highly recommended for inspirational winter camping!

Incredible starry nights

This was a cool experience and the stars were absolutely stunning! It was pretty crowded while we were there, and the campsite itself is nothing special. That being said it's well worth a stop for the novelty!

Neat spot to stay

Death Valley in November is great. Perfect weather, clear skies, and comfortable temperature ranges. 

Our campsite was #100 which is close to the visitor center, bathrooms, water, and paved areas. 

However, the ground can be soft and moisture-holding in places. My tent was on the softer patch the first night, and the soil trapped more humidity than expected. This led to heavy tent condensation. 

Had to move the tent around to the firm gravel and it was much better.

Perfect weather, moist campsite

Would perhaps consider 3.5 to 4 stars. But, on what was to be our 2nd to last night, a very large group showed up (at least 15) that was quite noisy, lots little folks running around, loud adults. We dry camped but there are electric spot available, there is a dump station, dish-wash station, bathroom were avg. (This was also during gov't shutdown so bathrooms might have been a bit better; they were adequate). It was 93 degrees day after our arrival (mid-Nov.). 3rd day was temperate, with night time temp in 60s. Last couple of days, there was a flood watch in effect (atmospheric river through state of CA while we were there). VERY windy at times, and wind chill resulted in needing to wear jackets &amp; gloves. At the crater, the wind blew us around and we abandoned our hike (risk of being blown off the edge). We considered leaving early due to flood watch. When the very large group showed up, that made the decision for us and we left 1 day early. Nice overall to have experienced relatively rare weather in such as place :)

This was a great locale for seeing the park and fairly central. Still several sites/roads close due to flooding months earlier.

Probably best campground in Death Valley (no frills)

Great campsite right in the heart of death Valley. The campsites are spacious. The bathrooms are clean and accessible. Unfortunately, the campsite we chose (111) was very unlevel and appeared to have a dry creek running through it. Other than that the campground is very good.

Clean with easy access  convenient for hiking trails

I think a lot of people avoid Death Valley because they expect barrenness , boring desert. Nothing could be further from the reality of this stunning park. There is so much to do and see. The campground is nothing special but it is centrally located in the middle of the park. 

Death Valley is like another planet

I stayed here the first week on January for 3 nights, but had 3 different camp sites:   
  
#132: Tent site, walk-in: 

\-It had just rained and the entire area was a bit muddy but not too bad. This site was very hard to find. It is to the LEFT of the parking spot, beyond the trees. Not intuitive if arriving after dark. About 50' from your parking spot. Lots of families and a bit loud 

  

#27: Car/RV no hook up 

\-My favorite site, more secluded and had trees separating some sites. Difficult to acomodate to SUV's but doable. 

  

#14: Car/RV no hook up 

\-Very close to the entrance, every car coming into the campground has to go over speed bumps next to camp. Very exposed. Lovely for sunrise though.   
  
I would recommend dispersed camping if you can but this is a good central option. 

  

Wifi at the visitor center is terrible, but better late at night. I was able to connect to ATT cell service in some areas.
