Boy Scout Cove Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Bank-fishing for bass and watching lightning move across the cove are the kinds of experiences campers have reported at Boy Scout Cove, a county-managed site on Ruth Lake in Mad River, California. The drive in runs rough enough to count as an adventure, and the site itself is primitive. Water is marked non-potable, so bring your own. Tree canopy provides reasonable rain coverage, and the site tends to draw light crowds. Fir Cove Campground and Hobart Creek Campground sit within a few miles for campers who want options nearby. Pets are welcome, campfires are allowed, and reservations are available.

beautiful views

we stayed there the last weekend in may and enjoyed the mild weather and the lack of other campers. the views of the cove are great and provide decent fishing from the bank. we were in for a show with a lightning storm as it moved in from the northeast. it rained, but the tree canopy did a decent job of providing coverage so we werent immediately. the site is truly primitive and while its advertised as having water available, its marked non-potable. its a bit of an adventure driving in, but well worth it.
