Hammock-friendly shade trees and a short walk to Rainbow Pond give Cal Pines its main draws at this privately managed campground in McArthur, California. Afternoon breezes move through the forested sites, and the elevation provides a cooler base than valley floors nearby. Sites run $30 per night, reservations are available, and cell service is accessible, which is useful for trip coordination among campsites near McArthur. The campground suits campers who want a forested, lake-adjacent spot without sacrificing connectivity.

Nice getaway

This was a great place at the top of the mountain. Rainbow pond was a great place to walk to from the campground. I really enjoyed my time setting up a hammock and enjoying the scenery. There was plenty of shade and a nice breeze in the afternoon that I looked forward to.
