Description
Tonto National Forest opens up into broad Sonoran Desert terrain here, in the shadow of Picketpost Mountain's distinctive basalt summit roughly two miles to the southeast. The area offers multiple spread-out pull-offs and drive-in spots roomy enough for big rigs or tent camping, with easy access to the Arizona Trail and nearby mountain biking and climbing routes. The dirt road in is generally passable for any vehicle in dry conditions, though it can turn soft and rutted after rain — arriving in daylight to read the road is a good habit.
