Best Cabin Camping near Ganado, AZ

Cabin rentals near Ganado provide basic to modest accommodations with varying levels of comfort and amenities. Spider Rock Campground in Chinle offers rustic cabin options with basic furnishings and access to shared bathrooms and showers. Painted Desert Ranger Cabin in Holbrook provides a more isolated cabin experience accessible by hiking in, featuring basic amenities including a picnic table, toilet facilities, and shower. "The cabins are a unique adventure, though some visitors might find the accommodations more rustic than expected," as one camper noted about the Spider Rock hogan-style cabins.

Rustic cabins dominate the lodging options with limited modern conveniences. USA RV Park in Gallup offers more developed cabin rentals with better access to amenities including showers, toilets, and drinking water. Most cabins require reservations, particularly during peak travel seasons, and have varying pet policies. A visitor remarked, "The cute log cabins to rent were clean and well-maintained," regarding USA RV Park's accommodations. Nizhoni Ranch provides cabin options with amenities like toilets, showers, and access to trash disposal, though with fewer hookups than RV-focused properties.

Most cabin rentals provide basic furnishings but require visitors to bring their own bedding, towels, and personal items. Cooking facilities vary significantly between locations, from basic fire pits to more developed setups. Spider Rock Campground offers firewood for purchase on-site, and their market provides limited supplies. USA RV Park features a more extensive store with groceries and camping essentials. Painted Desert Ranger Cabin is the most remote option with minimal amenities and no trash service, requiring campers to pack in all supplies and pack out all waste. Visitors should verify current availability as many Navajo Nation facilities have had limited operations in recent years.

    Clean, Patriotic, Friendly

Called day of and was able to reserve a 30AMP spot with full hook ups $39. As other reviews mentioned it is exceptionally clean, there is pride in ownership and America with a life size carved memorial to the armed services. Great play area for kids, giant chess and a pool (closed due to Covid). They were selling homemade pie and pulled pork sandwiches at check in also which was a fun surprise. A few cute log cabins to rent also. All gravel and not a lot of trees, no view but a clean and safe overnight for sure!

    Excellent Campground with Unexpected Amenities

When driving through Gallup, one doesn't expect to find such a great place to land on Route 66. On the surface it may appear to be a great over-nighter location - which it is! Level pull-through sites with a picnic table.  But it's so much more than that. First the business seems to be comprised of  family-owned and operated. They have excellent amenities including a lovely pool and playground area. Their shop is absolutely GREAT. The laundry area, showers, dish-washing area and other services are excellent.  Sites include electric, water and a picnic table. A dump station is positioned right by the exit. We had an unexpected delay for four days due to a medical situation, and they recommended a doctor who helped immensely, and they worked with us day to day to keep us in our spot as needed. Highly recommend this RV Park! Great folks!

    Dirt Sites with Some Amenities

Not much here to write home about, but this park does offer a small, enclosed dog park, pool, a small grocery in their office building, and a “cookout” concession stand like you would find at a theme park or stadium. Their stage was being used to display a patriotic homage to the US military. No pets allowed in the amenities area. Room for improvement would be adding trees and cactus appropriate to this climate to beautify the park, because it’s pretty barren. Staff did not wear masks indoors during the rising Covid pandemic.

    USA RV Park

    Clean, organized, and reasonably priced

Needed an overnight stay along Interstate 40 in New Mexico.  Check-in was quick and easy, the sites are arranged so that RV doors are not facing the neighbor's sewage pipe, which is something I always appreciate.  Most of the sites are pull-through.  The park is well laid out and covered with an attractive reddish-brown gravel.  The facilities were clean, the staff was pleasant.  The park felt safe though the neighborhood around it is economically distressed.  The park is family friendly; there is a dog-park, a nice pool, and attractive common area near the office with tables and statuary with a cute bear theme.  The only negatives are not under the control of the park: trains pass by frequently day and night, and in the evening the mosquitos are voracious.  My wife and I agree that we would return here.

    USA RV Park

    10/10

My husband and I were skeptical to stay at such an uber patriotic site on stolen land, (we are NOT AT ALL the target audience) but it exceed expectations at every turn. Truly a 10/10 experience from staff, to sites to amenities.

We only stayed the night, but there was so much to take advantage I was almost disappointed we didn’t stay longer.

Huge pool, large chess game, community dinners (no vegetarian/ vegan options) ice cream socials, camp store, etc.

Nice bathrooms, didn’t use laundry. WiFi and ATT& Verizon worked at site. Gravel sites needed leveling with full hook ups. Picnic table came with site.

    Overnight near interstate

I booked this park months out- needed a place to stay on our way home from AZ. We left the Grand Canyon in the morning and stopped in Gallup to sleep before heading to Petroglyph NM the next morning. The staff member at the entry was very efficient, friendly, and informative. Our site was toward the back of the property- so we didn’t hear any road noise. The park was probably around 3/4 full on the Monday night we stayed- but it was pretty quiet. There was a pet area with a cinder block “fence” and several people walked dogs around in the park. I wanted to take a peek at the pool- so I picked up my 6 lb dog to walk into that area to see it and a lady quickly intercepted me and said dogs couldn’t be in that area. The pool looked decent from what I could see. The cell signal seemed strong from the indicators on our devices but I guess due to the number of users in the area, we had slow service. We tried the park’s WiFi but it was too slow to do much. Our site was mostly level so we used our small curved levelers on one side. The sites are VERY close together and many of the picnic tables seem to need new boards for seats.

    Nice RV Park

Had everything we needed plus more. Heated pool with American Flag inlaid. Veteran theme. Nice area to hike is the creek bed joust off the doggie walk area. Heated pool is no turned off for the winter. Over 100 sites, most pull through.

Guide to Ganado

Cabin camping near Ganado, Arizona offers lodging options within driving distance of Canyon de Chelly and Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Sites. Situated in the high desert at approximately 6,400 feet elevation, the area experiences wide temperature fluctuations with summer daytime highs in the 90s and winter lows frequently below freezing. Most cabins require advance planning as availability remains limited throughout the Navajo Nation region.

What to do

Canyon hiking access: Spider Rock Campground provides a trailhead for canyon access directly from the property. "There is a great hiking trail that starts at the campground and goes to the canyon. Howard the owner is very friendly and a wealth of information," notes Francois T. about the Spider Rock Campground.

Stargazing opportunities: The Painted Desert area offers exceptional night sky viewing with minimal light pollution. "This property offers gorgeous stargazing opportunities, and is right next to the Petrified Forest," explains Ashley F. about the Painted Desert Ranger Cabin.

Cultural exploration: Gallup's trading posts and Native American craft markets are accessible from nearby cabin rentals. "Gallup is a super interesting place and could have easily spent way more time than we did," mentions Mike M., who stayed at USA RV Park.

What campers like

Convenient overnight locations: Cabins provide strategic stopping points on cross-country routes. "We stayed just one night while driving from Page, Arizona to Albuquerque. Friendly staff and visitors," reports Nicole B., who found USA RV Park suitable for breaking up longer journeys.

Camp store access: Some cabin rental facilities offer well-stocked stores for essential supplies. "Really well done park and facilities, maybe even the best camp store I have ever visited," shares Mike M. about the market at Nizhoni Ranch.

Basic amenities: Even at rustic properties, access to toilets and showers remains important to cabin guests. "The campground is a little rough along the edges but the sites are great," notes Francois T. about Spider Rock Campground's facilities.

What you should know

Cash payment policies: Some properties have specific payment requirements. Spider Rock Campground accepts cash payments only upon arrival, which has caused confusion for some international visitors.

Site access limitations: Larger cabins and remote locations may require special vehicles. "Must have a small trailer. We have a 28' 5th wheel and after looking at the potential spots, had to back our way out. There is no way to turn around," cautions Bob & Ramona F. about accessing Spider Rock.

Seasonal availability: Many cabin rentals close during winter months or operate with reduced services. "Call before you go to find out about limitations as the Navajo Nation has been hard hit by Covid," advises Craig J. from his experience at Spider Rock Campground.

Tips for camping with families

Food delivery options: Some campgrounds with cabin rentals allow food delivery services. "We were able to get pizza delivered to our RV site which was a big hit with the kids," shares Nicole B. about her family's stay at USA RV Park.

Swimming amenities: Properties with pools provide welcome relief during hot months. "Clean showers, a nice heated pool very friendly staff," reports Bryson D. about family-friendly amenities at USA RV Park.

Noise considerations: Check for potential noise factors that might disturb light sleepers. "We were there on a quite busy airport day/night. We don't use ear plugs and it was very noisy from the aircraft," notes Semi H. about their stay near Gallup.

Tips from RVers

Location advantages: Cabin rentals often share facilities with RV parks, providing more amenities than typical tent camping. "Full hookups with military and good sam discounts. We've stayed here before and we will again. A dog park, showers, rest rooms and laundry available," explains jeanne A. about USA RV Park.

Wi-Fi reliability: Connectivity can be challenging in remote areas even when advertised. "The cell signal seemed strong from the indicators on our devices but I guess due to the number of users in the area, we had slow service. We tried the park's WiFi but it was too slow to do much," reports Susan R. about connection issues at USA RV Park.

Leveling requirements: Some cabin sites may need adjustments for comfort. "Our site was mostly level so we used our small curved levelers on one side. The sites are VERY close together and many of the picnic tables seem to need new boards for seats," notes Susan R. about the layout at USA RV Park.
