Delta State Recreation Site

Wooded sites spread across 24 spots at this recreation area outside Delta Junction, where narrow access roads and overhanging branches create challenges for larger RVs. The campground works best for smaller setups—Class B and C motorhomes, compact travel trailers, and tent campers who can navigate the tight turns without scraping tree limbs.

Sites offer enough separation for privacy, with some tucked away among the trees and others positioned for easier RV access. Running water comes from multiple faucets throughout the campground, and vault toilets serve campers along with a camp host cabin. Firewood sells for $8 per bundle or two for $15 from the host when available. The day-use area features multiple picnic tables, grills, and a small pavilion for groups.

MickandKarla W. notes that "tent sites looked inviting, and the area has a quiet, wooded charm," though they found the roads too narrow for their 40-foot fifth wheel. Most sites accommodate rigs up to 35 feet, but even those face branch clearance concerns on the winding entrance roads.

Campers looking for full hookups and easier big-rig access often choose Delta State Rec Area instead, which offers more maneuvering room just half a mile north.

Site Size Limits Worth Knowing

We originally planned to stay at Delta State Recreation Area on a first-come, first-served basis after reading several online reviews suggesting that a 40’ RV could fit into some of the sites. After scouting the campground in person, we decided not to chance it and instead stayed at Big Delta State Historical Park nearby. That said, we wanted to share our impressions to help fellow campers make an informed decision. In our opinion, Delta State Recreation Area is not suitable for 40' fifth wheels—primarily for two reasons: 1: Narrow roads with tight turns where overhanging tree branches could easily scrape your rig. 2: Short, narrow sites that don’t provide enough swing room for a 62’ truck and trailer combo. There may be a couple of sites that could fit a rig up to 35’, but even those had branch clearance concerns. Some of the longer-looking sites are actually“buddy” sites labeled A and B, which are meant to be shared and aren’t ideal for big rigs. This campground is best suited for smaller setups—Class B and C motorhomes, small travel trailers, and tent campers. Tent sites looked inviting, and the area has a quiet, wooded charm. There are vault toilets and a camp host cabin onsite, though it appeared unoccupied during our late June visit.

Nice little stop over

Right outside Delta Junction this campground has a great day use area with multiple picnic tables and grills. A small picnic pavillion also adds to the day use appeal. Quiet sites with enough separation of peace and privacy. Firewood for sale $8 a bundle or 2 for $16. Close too all the Delta history and a great little stop off campground.
