Accessible only by hiking into Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, Canyon City requires advance planning and backpacking gear. The National Park Service manages this backcountry site along the historic Chilkoot Trail, where gold rush stampeders once established a temporary settlement in the 1890s.
Campers must pack in all supplies and pack out all waste, as no facilities exist at this remote location. The hike-in access means visitors should prepare for variable weather conditions typical of Southeast Alaska. Nearby trail camps include Pleasant Camp — Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park and Finnegan's Point — Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. Contact the park service for current trail conditions before departing.
