21 acres of raw untouched primitive camping land next to beautiful Lake Martin, Alabama. Campsites are far apart from each other so you can enjoy your privacy.

The property is completely untouched for a true nature experience. If you're looking for a place with modern life amenities this campground is definitely not for you. Each campsite is 1 acre apart so you have a lot of privacy. Bring your binoculars or telescopes to enjoy a beautiful stargazing experience.

Campers are required to park and walk to their campsites so there's no cars inside the reserve. Everything you bring in, you are required to take with you.

A 55 gallon tank of fresh water is provided to each site for your convenience. There is no electricity so bring your flashlights and solar power banks if you need to power your devices.

We are only 3 minutes to the Pace's Point Boat Ramp in case you bring your canoe, kayak or just want to go for a swim.

There's a porta potty on site for your convenience.

This is a very private campground with limited availability. Contact us to book your experience in advance so we can make sure we're available.

    Thank you for visiting us.

    Be blessed.

Escape to a private campsite in rural Alabama. The property is surrounded by forest and wildlife. There are several places to hang a hammock and plenty of room for outdoor games like cornhole. Enjoy making smores by the campfire and gazing at the stars.

The city of Columbus is about 25 minutes away and offers white water rafting, zip lining, axe throwing, a river-walk, and other activities. There are plenty of lakes and rivers to go fishing. Auburn is about 40 mins away.

The site offers an outhouse, fire pit, fire pit grill rack for cooking, platform (which can be used for small/medium tents) and a hiking trail that is about 1/3 of a mile.

Please note, the site has a road but during heavy rain the road can accumulate mud. Suggest 4-wheel drive vehicles for rainy conditions. Otherwise, cars are able to access campsite and park at site. Hipcampers can also park at the front of the property and walk about .25 miles to site if unable to drive. Please message me beforehand if you are worried about driving conditions.

The property is surrounded by hunting land so please be mindful of property lines and do you best to stay on the trail. Also, expect gunshots in the distance every once in a while.

Property also has natural wildlife like coyotes, snakes, spiders, ants, etc.. Alabama can also get very hot during June, July, August. Please prepare accordingly.

My wife and I bought this property in 2021 with the goal of turning this land into a homestead. She is currently in the army. My mom and stepfather live at the front of the property and will be able to help accommodate you if needed. Meeting at the front of the property is not needed.

        Overnight Stay

We stayed overnight, we had a back in spot that was level. Had all the proper hook ups including a flag pole and pond view. There were lots of open spots but they did keep everyone close together. The only thing that dropped a star was the sounds from the highway was absolutely overwhelming. It was so loud we had a hard night sleeping. Would not recommend the stay if you’re not staying in something to block out sound.

Love Gunter Hill! ❤️. Wide open and spacious lots here have us spoiled. Clean bathhouse and laundry plus on site boat ramp to the river make it one of our favorite places. Walking trails are great too!

        Average but good

This has a good road and decent open spots to set-up. Overlanders (w/rtt) will be the most happy. Open areas have tall grass a but, but some have enough pine trees the pine needles make for better ground camping. Small camper trailers could probably make it too. Just be mindful of turn around spots.

I arrived late so harder to find spots. Mid-week so no one else here.

-Lacked good signage on the last turn. -No facilities (as expected) -Open to sky (took awesome star pics here)

Amazing cg! Site Catoma 33. Back in site water behind. But cliff is too intense to go down. Gorgeous site, huge, shady, and across from restrooms. Boat ramp. Rode bikes around, but not many places to go besides cg. Friendly hosts and great place!

        Very nice campground

Wow, this is such a pretty campground! Our site is absolutely huge! I absolutely love all of the trees!! Unfortunately, it’s still 97° out. 🤣 We are in the shade for most of the day. With a fan, it wasn’t too bad sitting outside in the shade. I am so excited to see the lightning bugs. We don’t have them in my part of FL.

We have one bathhouse near our site (across from site 34), which appears to be older. I do love that the water is regulated and will only be on for a short amount of time. The lights have a motion sensor, which is a great idea. Unfortunately as I was getting dressed, the light turned off and wouldn’t turn back on. I had to open the door and flail around to get it to turn back on. Sorry for anyone who may have witnessed that. lol I was covered up, I promise. The water did not drain where the changing area is. The water just puddled there. We ran across the bathhouse by site 71 and that one is way better. It has AC too, which was nice in this heat. Yes, we use the showers at campgrounds. This also has washers and dryers, but both washers are broken. 😞 Our RV shower is really small and I like to actually move my arms around while showering. Please don’t criticize us for our decision.

Our unfortunate event: while sitting outside, something smell really rancid. Unfortunately, people before us lost their dog. We walked down to look at the water and that’s when we discovered the body. 🥺 I called the front office and they were able to confirm that it was the lost dog. We were unable to sit outside most of the time because of the decay smell drifting up to our site. We hoped the ranger would have come here to pick up the body for the people, but they never showed up. Not the camp hosts responsibility at all and I’m not blaming them. I hope the owners were able to get some closure, but I can’t imagine how they feel.

This cg is amazing! We were in Catoma Loop. Huge sites, water in back, 50 amp, FHU. Restroom good condition and directly across from us. Very well maintained and friendly hosts. Very quiet. Plenty of walking, and biking. Has a boat launch. Definitely stay here again.

        Great little campground off I-65

Ultra clean Good Sam campground located just off I-65. Staff was wonderful and engaging. Expect a former Marine to escort you to your site, rain or shine. It was pouring buckets when we arrived and he insisted on taking us literally across the street from the camp store to ensure we had everything we needed.

All lots appeared to be pull thru and level. Due to rain, we kept our Airstream connected to the truck and just connected water and electricity. Leveling was minimal (fore/aft) with no need for blocks or boards.

Recommend staying in sites closer to camp store, as they are farthest from interstate. We barely heard it from site 2.

Laundry room was clean and available to wash/dry lots of towels due to rain and wet dog. Water pressure in campground is 80 psi.

Large fenced dog park at north end and plenty of green space for walking your puppy. Just be aware there are rabbits all over the place.

Propane is available on site and the camp store has a little bit of everything. And there’s a Love’s truck stop at the exit as well.

Great spot for an overnight stay on your trip. You won’t find a nicer staff or a cleaner campground!a

        The place is big

But also poorly signed and the front desk is pretty unhelpful. She asked if I had been here before and I said no and yet she never explained there was a code to get in. Frustrating at best. It is a huge campground, can't imagine the number of people in the summer. Seems I drove past some wilderness areas and hikes on the way in. We won't get to explore them on this visit.

I called ahead and found they use to be harvest hosts and that is when they had campers. They no longer host but did allow me to sleep there for the night. Every friendly people and quiet location next to a muscadine vineyard. Nice enough to allow me to use their plumbed restroom as well (I'm in a tiny camper).

        First impressions

Just arrived mid Sunday afternoon. Booked a site 4 months ago to find we have been allocated a different site. Reception closed and the promised man to greet us wasn’t expecting us, therefore we have no info about the park. There is no cable tv as your site says and we have yet to be able to join the wifi! No park plan. Not impressed - at the cost of our site per night, we expected a lot better.

We spend three months a year on the road and are experienced travellers.

        Hoping things improve!

        Great Overnight Stay

In order to get in the campground, you have to have a code texted to you, no other way in! We had a pull through spot (I). The spot was slightly unlevel on the right side.Although there was loud interstate noise, it was still peaceful with the babbling creek in front of our site. There was a shower room, restrooms, laundry facilities available and all were clean. A huge beautiful pool and a children's pool, all were kept up nicely.

A nice place to be for a while!

Traveling through the area fairly often, I stayed here every other week over a 3 month period. The host was very friendly and oriented me to things I might need in the area. (Groceries, Hardware store, Food, etc.) Every check in gets escorted to their campsite, guided in, and he personally checks the water hook up and the power pole to make sure it works. Ground crews are constantly out making sure the areas stay neat and clean. The sites are gravel and are mostly level, I believe the most I had to adjust was 1.5". Every site has a concrete patio with a table. The laundry and showers are cleaned every day and work as expected. Washer is $2 and dryer is $2. Lots of long term renters present in the campground, but I never had a bad interaction with any of them. Large fenced in area for dogs, but being dogless in my travels....I never used it. There is an open field that connects to an oyster bar on the West side of the park with descent food. To the South of the park is a small pond with a walking track.

All in all this is a GREAT place to stay. the only reason I gave 4 stars is that there's not a lot of shade. Every site has a small tree next to it, but it's not much.

Good Overnighter or Short Stay Option

This review is based on a short-term stay versus a destination campground(CG). We traveled into the CG on the US highways following our RV GPS from FL with no issues getting to this CG. Check-in was very easy, and we were guided to our online reservation first choice, end site 19. Our check-in person was concerned we might not like pulling through site 19. He was correct, as this site was too short and had an incline at the unhitch point. We proceeded to the newer area, where we were given the choice of pull-through sites 97& 98, which were both FHUs and flat. We chose 98, which was fairly level and plenty long enough for our 5th wheel and F450. The sites in this CG are close to each other. There were no trees so that we could have put out our satellite, but there was no need due to the great cable selection. We got 3 bars on Verizon and used our MifI for what little internet we needed. We tried but could not connect to the CG's WiFi. They have very good water pressure, so we used a reducer. Where we were in the back of the CG, we could still hear the highway. There was no formal dog park, but plenty of areas to walk your dog. This is an older park with many permanent and seasonal residents. We were impressed that, for the most part, there was not that“trailer trash” look, and the residents were friendly. There are newer water and electric sites in the 100s area in front of where we were. There’s a shower house and laundry, but we did not use these facilities. This CG is a good short-stay option.

We stayed here from 29 Apr - 13 May 2023. We originally reserved a spot for 1 week but,had such a positive experience, we extended it for another week. We were in Spot #15 which sits directly in front of one of the several bodies of water on-site. Kickback sports a pool, laundry facility, game room, general store, large tv room, hiking/bike trails, large water slide (separate from pool), and a very strong wifi signal.
