Simon B. Elliott State Park Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Small and lightly trafficked, Simon B. Elliott State Park Campground sits in the forested hills near Penfield, Pennsylvania, drawing campers who want a low-key overnight without much infrastructure around them. The campground is compact, the park itself is small, and the overall setup leans toward simplicity rather than amenity. No showers are available on-site, and the bathroom facilities are modest, though reviewers note they're clean and include flush toilets.

Site conditions are worth knowing before arrival. Tent campers in particular should come prepared: several reviewers describe ground that runs uneven, rocky, rooty, and prone to muddiness after rain. Gravel pads at RV sites offer more reliable footing. The campground does have full hookups available for rigs up to 35 feet, including electric, water, and sewer connections. Cell coverage runs strong on AT&T and T-Mobile. Firewood is sold at the maintenance barn for $5 a bundle on a self-serve honor system.

The park has a dated, low-development character that some campers find appealing. "We really liked the vintage vibe the park had," wrote one reviewer, noting that walking the cabin loop and back roads was the main draw. Interstate noise from I-80 is audible a few miles away but not overwhelming according to multiple accounts. Parker Dam State Park Campground is a few miles north and provides more trails and a camp store for those wanting additional options. Campers considering the broader area can browse campgrounds near Simon B. Elliott State Park to compare alternatives. This campground makes the most sense for RV campers or those who travel light and don't need showers or a full-service setup.

A small, basic campground with challenging site conditions including swampy, uneven terrain that makes tent camping difficult. Many mentioned clean facilities but limited amenities, with convenient access to I-80 shopping.

Old and worn out

A dingy place. The ground was swampy the only dry places are the gravel pads in the sites. I wouldn't tent camp here.

On the plus side, strong AT&T and T-Mobile cell signals. (I don't have a verizon device)

Small Campground Close to Interstate with no Established Tent Pads

We stayed in site 6. It was a very small site and had no established spot to put our tent so we actually had to encroach on site 7, luckily no one was there the entire time we were because that would have been awkward - we were literally 3 feet from their fire ring. Everywhere else was unlevel/uneven/rocky/rooty/muddy/etc. They should put in tent pads. The bathrooms were small but clean with flush toilets. No showers. The interstate is somewhat noisy as it's only a few miles away but not too terrible. We really liked the vintage vibe the park had. The park is small with not much in regard to activities/amenitites but nice for just a laidback/relaxed camping trip. We enjoyed just walking around the cabin loop and back roads. There is wood for sale at the maitenance barn for $5 a bundle self serve honor system. Parker Dam is closeby with more to do and a store.

Small, Level sites, Pretty and Great easy trails

SB Elliott SP is a tiny campground with quite a few flat places to take a stroll.  The sites are decently sized for the size of the campground itself, and there is a bathroom at the campground and pit toilets across the street at the picnic area.  There are no showers.  Sites offer a picnic table and a fire ring.  There isn't a camp store, but  I-80 is 2 miles down the road and there are places to shop/eat in nearby Clearfield.  The park is a wonderful place to go for walks as they have fields, forested areas, gravel roads and paved roads.  Parker Dam State Park is also a couple of miles down the road if you want more trails to explore.
