Patterson State Park Campground

Patterson State Park sits in the Pennsylvania Wilds north of Coudersport, managed by the state park system as a first-come, first-served rustic campground. The layout consists of roughly eight open sites arranged around a small gravel loop, with limited tree coverage between sites and a road running directly alongside the area. Nearby, Cherry Springs State Park Campground draws visitors for its dark-sky conditions, and Patterson frequently absorbs overflow when reservations there fill up.

Amenities are minimal but functional. Water comes from a manual pump well that reviewers consistently describe as reliable. No electric hookups exist, and the restroom is a vault-style pit toilet. As Fernando V. notes, "Restroom is the typical hole with no flush, but is very clean." Cell service is available on site. The Susquehannock Trail System passes through the park, with trailheads accessible directly from the campground, and horse trailers have been spotted using the trail on the far side of the road. Two pavilions are on the grounds, one equipped with a fireplace.

Crowd levels here run low. Campers report arriving to find the entire campground empty, which gives families with children room to spread out. Star visibility is possible from the sites, though trees obstruct views of Polaris in most spots, making the campground less suitable for telescope use than the open fields at Cherry Springs. Road noise from passing cars is noticeable at night.
