Description
The Flambeau River State Forest provides excellent backcountry opportunities, including wooded hiking trails, ATV and snowmobile trails, canoeing and kayaking on the Fambeau River, traditional family campsites and rustic river sites, and hunting and fishing. Nine boat landings offer access to forest lakes and the Flambeau River. A picnic shelter at Connor's Lake is reservable. In addition to two family campgrounds in the forest, there are 14 primitive, canoe camping areas scattered along the Flambeau River which are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The newly constructed Flambeau River State Forest Elk Ridge Yurt is located along the iconic Flambeau River in the town of Oxbo, WI. Campers will have direct access to the river, 90,000 acres of State Forest, a network of ATV and Snowmobile trails, and a multitude of hiking, biking, and ski trails, as well as a host of pristine lakes. The yurt is furnished with a woodstove, four bunk beds with mattresses, a futon, and a table and chairs. Campers will need to pack in their own firewood, which must originate from no more than 10 miles from the property or come from a state certified firewood vendor. Other site amenities include a fire ring, picnic table, lantern pole, bear proof food storage box, a game pole for hunters, and an enclosed vault toilet. Guests will have access to the yurt from a town road, and from the parking area its a short 300 walk to the site through a beautiful Hemlock stand. For those with disabilities, drive-to site access is available with prior approval from the property manager. The yurt can also be accessed directly from the river. It is located just upstream from Dix-Dox Landing.
