With 45-foot RV capacity and drive-in access, Black Lake accommodates larger rigs within Chequamegon National Forest. The $15 campground operates from May through October, offering vault toilets, drinking water, and a dump station. About half the sites sit directly on the lake, providing immediate water access for fishing and swimming.

Cell service remains minimal to nonexistent throughout the area, so campers should download maps and directions before arrival. The forested setting keeps mosquito populations variable by season. Reservations help secure lakefront spots during peak months, though the campground typically maintains low occupancy levels outside summer weekends.

Many visitors highlighted the quiet lakeside setting with clean basic facilities and warm swimming water. Some noted mosquito issues while others found few bugs, and no cell service throughout the area.

Beautiful, tucked away campground

Great campsite with about half the sites right on the lake. Plenty of pit toilets around the campground, but no high end facilities. This campground is well off the beaten path with little to no cell service. I would recommend pre-downloading directions out of the campground if you are exiting a different way then you came in or if you’re directionally challenged like myself. I went in late April and was the only person at the there, but still felt safe as a solo female traveler.

Great Weekend retreat in the northwoods

Great rustic campground in northern WI. Quiet, relaxing on a lake with little to no mosquitoes. Clean vault toilets, dumpsters, and fresh drinking water. Take note no cell service.

Beautiful,relaxing, beware of mosquitos!

Make sure to be equipped with lots of powerful mosquito repellant. Other than that, it was beautiful, had nice warm swimming water, was relaxing, and not heavily populated. 15 bucks for a campsite
