Within the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Waterfall Sanctuary provides an established camping option in the Carson area of Washington. This campground operates under Forest Service management, positioning campers in the Cascade Range foothills approximately 8 miles from the nearest town services.
The facility sits along forest roads that connect to regional trail networks and recreational areas. Limited review data means specific amenities and site details require verification upon arrival. Campers planning extended stays in the region can explore campgrounds around Carson for additional options, while nearby alternatives include Beaver Campground and Panther Creek Campground. The location works best for visitors comfortable with forest service facilities and minimal advance information.
Description
Welcome 2026 Hipcampers!
We have many exciting changes for our guests this year! Along with the geodesic dome, RV sites, wood-fires sauna, store, and cafe added last season, this year we will have 3 stargazer tents! Brand new tents at sites 1, 2, and 6- all Stargazers. Spend the night looking at the stars from the comfort of your own bed.
We will also be adding more DIY tent spots as the season progresses, so keep an eye out for those as well.
And, look at the option available for booking the whole property for retreats, group camping trips, weddings, or anything else. Ask about the added bonuses for booking the whole property.
BEFORE BOOKING:
Please read all rules and restrictions- due to some guests we had to update & add new ones.
**DOGS (MAX 2 per site- select under "Extras" for each dog- $15/nightly fee each):
PLEASE read ALL the rules- especially about having your dog on a leash AT ALL times while on the property.
More info under the pet rule section. Thank you!
Waterfall Sanctuary is a hidden gem on 17 acres, bordered on two sides by the Gifford Pinchot N F. In the heart of the Columbia River Gorge just outside Carson, Washington. It's home to a mini-farm with goats, ducks, and chickens. Deer and elk walk through the property on a fairly regular basis depending on the season, it's less than a mile walk (or short drive) to the Wind River with a swimming hole, and a short distance further to the Pacific Crest Trail.
A 20-minute drive and you're at the Columbia River. An hour to the West is Portland if you are in the mood for some city life, and 35 minutes east is Hood River, a gorgeous old town with tons of charm. The closest town, Stevenson, Washington is home to shops, local restaurants, and access to the Columbia River.
Also in close proximity are amazing waterfalls, trails, and National Forest roads that are close by and well maintained. No matter the season there is something to do a short distance from the property.
Keep in mind that the property is very rugged except for the trails we have provided to access other parts of the property. We are as off grid and sustainable as possible- while no electricity or running water is available at the individual sites, we provide battery or solar operated lighting, and there is power to charge electronics in cafe and store area as well as an indoor bathroom for guest use.
