 Located in the southeast corner of the Gifford-Pinchot National Forest and close to Columbia River Gorge, Moss Creek Campground sits alongside the Little White Salmon River. At an elevation of 1,400 feet, the campground is shaded by a thick canopy of hemlock, cedars, firs and maples. Moss Creek is ideal for those wishing to escape the summer heat.

 Located in southwest Washington State, the Gifford Pinchot National Forest encompasses 1.3 million acres and includes the 110,000-acre Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, established by Congress in 1982. Moss Creek is located in the Mount Adams Ranger District in the easternmost portion of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Mount Adams is a prominent landmark on the District, where elevations range between 1,200 and 12,276 feet. The District features a great diversity of habitats, from old growth to second growth forest, wetland areas, low and high elevation meadows, glaciers and low and high elevation lakes.

 Cancellations Individual Campsites: Cancellations up to 2 days before a reservation start date incur a $10.00 cancellation fee. A visitor who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee including tax and applicable add-on for a campsite. Cancellations for a one-night reservation will forfeit the entire amount paid and will not be subject to an additional service fee. No-Shows A no-show visitor is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date. Staff will hold a campsite until check-out time on the day following the arrival date. No-shows are assessed $20.00 service fee and forfeit the first night's rate, taxes and applicable add-on for a campsite. Refunds Visitors may submit a refund request through their Recreation.gov profile within 7 days of the end date of their reservation. Refunds will not be issued after the 7 days has ended. Refunds for debit or credit card payments will be issued as a credit to the original bank or credit card used to pay. For check or cash purchases, Recreation.gov will mail a Treasury check for refunds of cash, check, or money order payments to the address associated with the reservation. Treasury check refunds may take up to 6-8 weeks to arrive. In the event of an emergency closure, the Recreation.gov team or facility manager will refund all fees and will attempt to notify you using the contact information within the Recreation.gov visitor profile.

The Best Camping Near Underwood, Washington

Moss Creek is in prime middle south territory of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest wonderland, right by the Big Lava Bed, Lil' Huckleberry Mountain, the Pacific Crest Trail, Forlorn Lakes and the Mt. Adams Ranger Station.  That each site is so uniquely its own is what makes this special - the raw campsites right by the road, the dip down to #8, right by a creek, that #12 sits up with a beautiful forest view right out the door (see pic) and the very helpful/pro-active campground hosts behind.  Moss Creek isn't crowded and is easy to find, right by Hwy. 14.  So what if it's not spectacular scenery-wise.  You just can't go wrong here.

May be small but offers a lot of privacy! Very clean and well maintained.

As of July 2019, the creek is running really low. Maybe ankle high deep.  
Sites 8, 9 ,10 are ideal as they are tucked away and sit in front of the creek.  Sites 13 &amp; 14 are better as they sit in a corner and have creek access right next to them but they have the toilet rooms right across from them.  13 &amp; 14 would be great for someone with kids! 

The whole place is extremely shaded by all the trees.  

Cute, quick lil getaway from Portland  Campground.

We loved our spot in the woods with water tap right outside. Friendly hosts delivered fire wood right to my campground. Good location - creek in the backyard and lots of driving destinations like Hood River. This particular site which was sloping - and neighbors were noisy and chopping down live trees and limbs on site - disappointing. 

Lovely in many ways

Beautiful area. Beautiful creek that runs through it. Downside of the creek is that it is extremely cold, and I have yet to see a fish in it.

I spent many weekends here the past year. Saw an elk cow and calf, and have seen deer as well. I heard that bear have also been seen in the area.

The biggest and most secluded site is #14. It is difficult to get, but worth it. #10 has a difficult, but beautiful water access. Least favorite site for most is #6, but it is perfect if you need solar or like to stargaze.

Nice campground 

Great spot in the NF outside of the Columbia River gorge area. Huge trees, nice cold creek. Very quiet. 

Quiet shady, creekside camping

Although this campsite does not provide electricity at all (I was hoping for a AC outlet in the bathroom but none were there). This campsite is worth staying. It has a decent distance from other campers and I don’t feel like I’m crunched up in my camp ground. Water is around certain campsites. #3 unfortunately did not have running water near by.
