WADNR Dispersed near Winston — Old Logging Roads

A network of old logging roads winds through this Washington DNR State Resource Management Area in the foothills west of the Cowlitz River, offering valley views and genuine quiet once a suitable dead-end spur is found. Locating a workable pull-off takes some exploration — the area rewards a daylight approach, as the road network can be disorienting in the dark and some stretches run close to steep drop-offs. Occasional dirt bikers pass through, and there is minor litter in spots, but the setting is otherwise undisturbed.
