## Overview

 Located on the famous Blue Ridge Parkway in the hills of rural Virginia, Rocky Knob Campground is nestled amid rolling meadowlands with impressive displays of seasonal flowers, endless night skies and green pastures. Numerous nearby overlooks and the winding parkway provide an ideal backdrop for a traditional camping experience.
## Recreation

 The campground is located in the Rocky Knob Recreation area, surrounded by more than 4,000 acres of forest. The site offers easy access to the Rock Castle Gorge Trail, a 10.8-mile (17.4 km) loop trail ranging in elevation from 1,700 to 3,572 feet (518 to 1,089 m). Rock Castle Gorge, a 1,500-foot (457 m) ravine carved by the waters of Rock Castle Creek, is the focal point of this trail, offering hikers breathtaking scenery. Black Ridge Trail: a moderate 3-mile loop passing through the forest on a seldom-used gravel road and through a meadow. Accessed from the Rocky Knob Visitor Center. Numerous tours and interpretive talks are given near the Gorge and surrounding trails during the summer, offering campers the chance to learn more about the area's historical significance and abundant plants and wildlife. 
## Facilities

 Rocky Knob Campground combines the exhilaration of a traditional outdoor camping experience with modern amenities like flush toilets, dump station, and drinking water. Both RV and tent sites are available, each equipped with picnic tables, lantern poles, and fire rings/grills--perfect for picnics, barbecues or late night s'mores. The campground almost always has campsites available. In addition to the 44 sites available for advanced reservation, 62 campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Availability of the first come, first served sites cannot be tracked through Recreation.gov. The sites must be booked in person at the campground kiosk. Primitive Backcountry Camping is available at Rock Castle Gorge. Obtain a free permit from the Rocky Knob campground office (May-October) (540-745-9664) or the Rocky Knob District Office (540-745-9660). 
## Natural Features

 The Blue Ridge Parkway is a scenic byway that stretches almost 500 miles along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains through North Carolina and Virginia. It offers plenty of natural attractions and recreational opportunities for visitors, as well as a cross-section of Appalachian mountain history from pre-historic times to early European settlements, and on to today. Rocky Knob Campground, one of the first established sites along the Blue Ridge Parkway, is home to several famous geological attractions. Rock Castle Gorge, known for its beautiful rock crystalline quartz formations, was once home to several mountain families. Visitors can still find remnants of their old apple orchards and abandoned stone chimneys along parkway trails. 
## Nearby Attractions

 The nearby town of Floyd offers entertainment, shopping, food, gas and lodging. There are also multiple wineries nearby that offer tours and tastings. Visit Mabry Mill at milepost 176 near Meadows of Dan, Virginia. The campground is about 30 miles from Mount Airy, North Carolina, the birthplace of actor Andy Griffith and the inspiration for the fictional TV-series town of Mayberry. Mount Airy also offers grocery stores, gas stations and medical facilities.

Rocky Knob Campground is right outside of Floyd, VA off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Southwest region of the state.

Why stay here? It's right outside of Floyd. They host Floyd Fest each year as well as a Yoga Jam. It's right off the Blue Ridge Parkway if you are traveling. Did I mention it's to Chateau Morrisette Winery?!

Our family stays here multiple times a year, it's a nice little getaway, yet still close to home. This Campground offers toilets and running water, but no showers so remember to bring your dry shampoo and bug spray depending on the time of year.

Sites are pretty close together, but we didn't mind. We pitched an 8 person tent, a hammock, and were quite cozy in front of the fire ring. Can't wait to visit again. 

Good for families (kids ride their bikes through Campground), couples, singles.

Great overnight camping stay!

C loop is best IMO. Far from RV sites, the spaces are quiet with plenty of room. We love it! A winery, meadery, restaurants, convenient stores, hiking trails, Mabry Mill, live music and Nancy's candy factory are all within short drives. Get firewood at nearby Poor Farmer's Daughter in Meadows of Dan as they don't sell it at the campground.

My favorite place for a quick camp trip! 

Located on the BRP not far from where it intersects with US-58\. Sites are primitive, very shady, and for the most part sites are pretty small. Very nice place if you're into dry camping, or car camping.

Primitive Tent Sites

Wide open beautiful sites.   Many with pull through sites.   Lots of room.  Great for astronomy buffs.   Stopped here on our way north.  Drawback is no hookups or WiFi.  Would have been great to at least have water.  Only a few miles from Mabry Mill.

Great camp for an overnight stay 

This is a beautiful nature campground that has very primitive camping. Unless you have a self contained camper you should be ok. No running water at our site. But what it lacked in amenities it made up for in breathtaking mountainous views. Absolute beauty in its rarest form.

Great spot on the parkway

On BRP near Floyd, VA.  A lot of amenities in town and hiking trails nearby.  Clean and quiet: no generators allowed in tent camping area and quiet hours after 10pm.  Tent sites $20 per night at time of my stay.

This was an absolutely gorgeous campground I wish I could have stayed at longer. We popped the tent for a night up here and although it poured on us all night, we still loved it. Hope to come back and visit again soon 

Great place to pitch a tent

Rocky Knob is a good campground for a couple nights along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Loop C is tent only. Inner part of the loop sites are quite close to each other but have convenient access to bathhouse, which is kept pretty clean. Firewood $7 a bundle on the honor system, but is locked up at 5:30 each night. Great views of surrounding mountains in late October as the leaves fall away. 

Good campground on Parkway

This is a National Park Service campground located along the Blue Ridge Parkway, a short distance north of the famous&amp; scenic Mabry Mill. It’s open Memorial day through late October and reservations are available online, but also offers a significant complement of first-come, first-serve sites. Only 28 of the sites are suitable for RVs. The larger sites are located in a loop that runs parallel to the Parkway, so you may experience a little more road traffic noise. Loop C is tent only and farthest from the main road. Bring cash or check to pay for your site if you arrive without a reservation and need to pay at the iron ranger.

  

Cell service is poor. Some of the sites have bear lockers, so be sure to put away your food and scented toiletries. Sites are wooded, though the T loop is more open

  

Facilities are limited, with hot water and flush toilets, but no showers or hookups. For RVs, there is a dump station. Firewood is for sale. There's also a group site located near the back of loop C

  

In addition to the scenic drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway and historic sites, there are trails to explore, including the more rigorous Rock Castle Gorge trail that will take you past waterfalls and an old CCC camp. A downside to many of the hikes along the Parkway is that you start at the top and hike down, so you’ll have an uphill hike toward the end. You may see wildlife: deer, turkeys and bear frequent the area.

Great for Hikers

Stayed here during a thru drive of the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was amazingly empty! I had my pick of lots of great campsites. The entire campground is under a forest canopy. There isn't much brush for privacy, but the sites are large and spaced out well. Mine had a nice level grassy area for tent pitching.

The air was pleasantly cool here, and there was a slight breeze. This made for a good night's sleep... once the thunderstorm passed, that is. It blew in without much warning; I was glad I already had my tent set up.

The only thing that bothered me here was the bathroom. It was bizarre. Zero lighting. The campground has electricity, but the bathroom does not. For sinks, you have a choice between one with a ridiculous low flow timed faucet, and one that blasts water onto your shoes and pants. And that thing on the wall that looks like a soap dispenser in the dark? Yeah, that's actually just hand sanitizer. No soap, no paper towels, no hand dryer. I prefer a nice vault toilet to this oddball thing. At least there I know what I'm getting and there are no surprises.

Passing through. Stayed one night. Quiet and easy pull through. No hook ups on sites. 

Decent Campground 

Minimalist facilities. Good location. Has rv and tent sites. Right off blue Ridge Parkway. 

Overall ok if you need a crash pad, but I would not seek it out
