## Overview

 Ledgefork Campground is located just above Smith and Morehouse Reservoir on the western edge of the Uinta Mountains in northeastern Utah. The town of Oakley is just 14 miles away. Visitors enjoy fishing, canoeing and exploring the Smith and Morehouse Trail.
## Recreation

 The reservoir is open to motorized boats, though a wake-less speed is enforced, making it an excellent place for canoeing and kayaking. A boat ramp is located on the northwest shore. Anglers enjoy fishing for stocked rainbow trout and other native fish species. The 12-mile round-trip Smith and Morehouse Trail is popular with hikers and backpackers. The trail begins in the campground and leads through forests, meadows and a marsh before spurring off to Erickson Basin and Island Lake. 
## Natural Features

 The campground is situated within a quarter-mile of the reservoir in a scenic conifer and aspen forest at an elevation of 7,800 feet. Smith and Morehouse Creek runs through the campground. A variety of wildlife makes its home around the reservoir, including moose and deer. Summer temperatures range from 65-75 degrees in the day to 40-50 at night.

## Charges & Cancellations

 Change and Cancellation Policies and Fees Overnight and Day Use Facilities: To ensure fairness, reservation arrival or departure dates may not be changed beyond the booking window until 18 days after booking the reservation. Camping / Day Use: A $10.00 service fee will apply if you change or cancel your reservation (including campsites, cabins, lookouts, group facilities, etc.). The $10.00 service fee will be deducted from the refund amount. You can cancel or change reservations through Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Late Cancellations Overnight and Day Use Facilities: Late cancellations are those cancelled between 12:01 a.m. (Eastern) on the day before arrival and check out time on the day after arrival. Individual Campsites: If a customer cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival they will be charged a $10.00 service fee and will also forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid for the original reservation). Cancellations for a single night's reservation will forfeit the entire use fee but no cancellation fee will apply. Cabins / Lookouts: Customers will be charged a $10.00 cancellation fee and forfeit the first night's use fee if a cabin or lookout reservation is cancelled within 14 days of the scheduled arrival date. Cancellations for a single night's use will not be assessed a service fee. Group Facility: If a customer cancels a group overnight facility reservation within 14 days of the scheduled arrival date they will be charged the $10.00 service fee and forfeit the first night's use fee. Cancellations for a single night's use will not be assessed a service fee. Group Day Use Area: If a customer cancels a group day use facility reservation within 14 days of the scheduled arrival date, they will forfeit the total day use fee with no service fee charge. No-Shows Camping / Day Use: A camping no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date. Reserved campsites and group overnight facilities will be held until check-out time on the day following your scheduled arrival. Group day-use facilities will be held until check-in time on your scheduled arrival date. If a customer does not arrive at the campground or group facility by check-out time the day after arrival or does not cancel the reservation by the times listed under \"Late Cancellations\" above, the customer may be assessed a $20.00 service fee and forfeit use fees. Refunds Customers must request refunds no later than 14 days after the scheduled departure date. Recreation.gov will not grant refund requests after 14 days of departure. Reservation Fee: For some facilities, tours or permits an additional reservation fee is charged. For some overnight and day-use facilities, an additional non-refundable reservation fee may apply. The non-refundable reservation fee for tours and tickets is $1.00. The non-refundable reservation fee for permits varies by location. Refunds for Bankcard Purchases: Refunds for bank card payments will be issued as a credit to the original bank card. Refunds for Check or Cash Purchases: Refunds for Recreation.gov payments made by check or money order, and cash payments at selected campgrounds will be issued a check refund. A refund will be processed within 30 days of receipt and approval. Please Note: Refund requests made during or after departure can only be processed when approved by the facility management staff based upon local policy. Refunds for Emergency Closures: In the event of an emergency closure, the Recreation.gov team will attempt to notify users and offer alternate dates (as appropriate). If this is not possible, reservations will be cancelled and all fees paid will be refunded. Reservation fees for free tickets are non-refundable in the event of an emergency closure. The Best Camping Near Oakley, Utah

Ledgefork sits on the south side of the Smith and Morehouse Resevoir in the Uinta National Forest. The resevoir itself is small, but beautiful, and we love the fact that motorized boats are not allowed, which helps keep the noise factor down. The resevoir is popular with anglers, as well as kayakers, canoes, and paddleboarders.

Ledgefork, as well as Smith and Morehouse campground (which sits at the north edge of the resevoir), are both popular family campsites, especially on the weekends and holidays, so I would recommend making a reservation if you can. Both campgrounds do have walk-up sites available and can be paid for with cash only. Sites are $21 per night.

Ledgefork is the trailhead for the Smith and Morehouse Trail which can take you to the Erickson Basin (5 miles), Island Lake (7 miles), and Crystal Lake Trailhead (10 miles). The trail is available to hikers, mountain bikers, and horses. However, when we visited the trail it was still closed due to fire in the area last year, so make sure to double check and see if it's reopened if the trails are what you're interested in.

Picnic tables, fire grills, vaulted toilets, drinking water, and garbage service are all provided. Pets are also permitted, as long as they are leashed.

*   Plenty of services, and the nearest town, Oakley, is only 14 miles away
*   Lots of recreational activities in the area

*   Trails were still closed due to fire
*   Resevoir was packed due to the holiday weekend (Pioneer Day)

Beautiful, Maintained, and Close to Home

Great mix of sites for rvs and tents. Stays open through October for deer season 😁 Ties into Smith &amp; Morehouse Trailhead. Moose, deer, elk all in the area. Store 20 mins away in Oakley.

Quiet, Wildlife, Great Facilities

Ledgefork is one of those areas you better get a reservation for early in the season. They book up quick, but there’s a reason for it! The whole area is gorgeous. From the  northern end of the lake all the way south into dispersed camping areas, the sights are awesome. Wildlife everywhere. Great fishing. Clean campsites. Friendly campground hosts. Firewood available for purchase. Oh and did I mention how everything was just beautiful?! Don’t miss a weekend at Ledgefork. Seriously. 

There’s a reason tho area is so popular! 

Super pretty campground and well cleaned up, there’s bathrooms near every site that are also always very clean, the fishing wasn’t the best you’ll need a kayak/canoe or even a paddle board to catch anything. There’s not anywhere easy to fish around the edges but does provide very beautiful scenery. All of the campgrounds are pretty close together but there’s a few that have lots of coverage with trees so you can’t hear or see as much of the other campers. All around really great camping site. 

Way Cool

This is the second year in a row that we have stayed at this campground and it has become a new family favorite. We even brought a couple neighbor families with us this time. The only reason I won't give it 5 stars is because of the inconsistency with the water and the hassle to haul in water or travel down to the boat dock to refill any water jugs. 

We left on a Saturday and the reservoir was pretty packed with SUPs, Kayaks, Canoes, etc. Earlier in the week (even Friday) was less crowded. We took inflatable Kayaks with us this year and they were a ton of fun especially for those that wanted to enjoy the water without being freezing cold. 

One of my new favorite places

This is our third year in a row at this campground. The only reason I can’t give it 5 stars is because they still haven’t fixed the water and you have to bring in your own. The campground is well maintained and super clean. The new camp host on the first loop is great. We went a little earlier than we normally do and the water was a little higher so there were limited spots to hang out on the shoreline. 

There is a hiking trail right from the campground that is beautiful. It follows a creek all the way and eventually ends up over into the Crystal Lake area. 

3rd Time

Ledgefork is one of my favorite places to camp. Site#27 is an inside site, so no access to any of the rivers. It has 3 spaces for medium to small tents. Our large tent did not quite fit, so we didn't pull it to it's full width. It contained a nice little area with trees to get shade and hang a hammock. Easy access to 2 bathrooms. None of the RVs near us ran their generators, which was lovely. There was a huge group with 5 cars taking up the 2 spots next to us and they were quiet and friendly. It was still quite cold in the middle of June-- got to 32 degrees one night.
