Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest
Overview
Shannon Creek Campground is nestled along the western shore of Baker Lake in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest on the west side of the Cascades. The area is one of the most spectacular in the country, showcasing glacier-covered peaks, broad mountain meadows and old-growth forests.
Recreation
The surrounding area is a prime location for hiking, climbing, boating, fishing, picnicking and horseback riding in summer and early fall, and snowmobiling in the winter months. Baker Lake is a popular destination for boating, water skiing, canoeing, fishing and swimming. Anglers cast for a number of fish species. The nearby Baker Lake and Baker River Trails are family friendly hikes that wind through majestic old growth Douglas Fir and western red cedar trees. The Baker Lake trail contours above the eastern shoreline of Baker Lake. The Baker River Trail leads to North Cascades National Park.
Facilities
Shannon Creek Campground offers single and double-family sites for both tent and RV camping. Picnic tables, campfire rings, vault toilets and drinking water are provided. No electrical hookups are available.
Natural Features
Rugged peaks, scenic rivers and abundant wildlife define the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest and surrounding designated wilderness areas. On a clear day visitors can see Mt. Baker, which rises to an elevation of 10,781 feet. The active volcano is perpetually snow-capped. Mt. Baker's summit, Grant Peak, is actually a 1,300-foot-deep mound of ice, which hides a massive volcanic crater. Wildlife in the area ranges from mountain goats in the higher elevations to pine marten and porcupine on the forest floor. Migratory birds and native fish find ample habitat in the varied ecosystems as well.

Deep woods Pacific Northwest vibes
Popular camp area right on the lake. There's one boat ramp area and no shoreline that people can easily walk on to find a spot to sit. There are 2 picnic tables on the boat ramp, but they get claimed pretty quick. There are lots of small trails that go down to shoreline spots scattered around the road that you will pass on the drive in. Also lots of unofficial campsites that are free along the road into the actual campground.
On Lake Enjoyment in
We stayed here for a couple of nights using it as a base for hiking. It’s good for that but what’s really great is the access to Baker Lake. Bring your paddle board or kayak as this CG has good access into the lake. For us it was a cold plunge after long hot hiking days. The camp host was very nice and did a diligent job with keeping the place clean. On site water is with a well and pump. The toilets are pit toilets but were clean and well supplied. The picnic tables are new this year. Many of the sites aren’t real flat so plan on using your leveling blocks. Most of the sites are shaded with very large trees. It is the last campground on the road and the last few miles are fairly rough washboard but certainly not a problem. The last campground at the end of the pavement is much larger and better suited to large trailers and also had access to the lake.

More private than expected
We had site #8. We were pretty impressed with how private the sites were. Our tent was tucked behind bushes and not visible from the street- big win! Tons of mosquitos, luckily we had a canopy with mesh sides to keep them out. Only two vault toilets, one for the 17 main loop campsites, and one near the lake by the other 3. It was very quiet, after about 9pm it was virtually silent. Everyone was very respectful of quiet hours. The lake is beautiful, bring your kayaks!
