On a lake and near the Porcupine Mountains
Finding myself with a squealing front wheel on a holiday weekend was trouble. Luckily a local paused his celebration preparations and helped me fix the problem. We got to talking and he suggested this campground. It is similar to the state park and just down the road. He also said,“it’ll save you a few bucks too.”
We stopped by to check it out and found it was very similar to the state park. The boat launch and playground are in the middle as you drive in. Campsite loops are on each side. These sites are further from the water but nicely sized. Firewood is for sale right by the entrance. There are a few tall trees but not much vegetation between sites. We prefer more separation so this wasn’t as appealing.
We did like that this was a few miles closer to the Porcupine Mountains (hiking and Lake Superior visits) and also to town. It was also nice to get cell service at various points around the lake.

Good WiFi
Nice stop to get good WiFi. Otherwise, it’s not a very rustic camping experience. Great if you’re into that kind of RV park.
Updated and all amenities
For the last 3 years the county has hired a new manager who lives on site. The county put in a new shower house that would make a college locker room look weak. All hookups available, and sewer service is an added perk. The new manager has updated all picnic tables, gravel, docks, signs, and even sells firewood. Set on the biggest inland lake in the U.P., with the best walleye fishing in the Midwest. Swimming beach for the kids, and nearby towns for stocking up. The only negative are the bugs. Early summer can bring black flies , but usually die down by July.
