Beaver Lake

Overview

Starkey Campground sits along the vast shores of Beaver Lake in the Ozark Mountains of Northwest Arkansas, offering spacious and sunny campsites and an abundance of recreational activities.

Recreation

Fishing opportunities are plentiful near Starkey Campground. Beaver Lake has more than 28,000 surface acres of water, and anglers can try their luck at catching large and small-mouth bass, crappie, bream, white bass, stripers, and channel or spoon-bill catfish. Just below the dam, the cold waters of the upper White River provide a perfect habitat for pole-bending rainbow and record-size German brown trout. Several trails snake throughout the Ozark Mountains, offering peaceful hiking, biking and wildlife viewing opportunities for visitors. Hunters will find game plentiful in northwest Arkansas. A mixture of hardwood and evergreen forest provides a good home to many different species of wildlife. While Beaver Lake is conveniently located near several population centers, within a short driving distance hunters can find remote areas filled with upland game animals such as deer, rabbits and squirrels. Many other sports and activities await campers, including boating, swimming, picnicking, scuba diving, water skiing, spelunking and sightseeing.

Facilities

Starkey Campground has large campsites with plenty of shade and room for activities, and is steps away from the lake shore. Fire rings, picnic areas, drinking water all make for a comfortable camping getaway. A boat ramp and playground make the area perfect for families and other large groups.

Natural Features

Towering limestone bluffs, natural caves and a variety of trees and flowering shrubs surround Starkey Campground, making it an ideal retreat for outdoor enthusiasts. Beaver Lake and Dam, completed in 1966, was constructed in the White River Basin and boasts 449 miles of beautiful shoreline at the top of the conservation pool. Although the dam was originally built for flood control, hydroelectric power and public water supply, it has also created a popular recreational oasis.

Nearby Attractions

Several marinas are located around the lake, offering groceries, fuel, boat rentals and storage, fishing guides and camping supplies. Click here for more information.

Lots of deer

We saw so many deer in park and on the way in! This was the campground I wanted to stay at but I’m glad I didn’t. Only one (possibly 2) restrooms and no flush toilets. Road is extremely rough, pavement is coming apart and so are the sites. Didn’t look like it had been mowed recently either. It’s a beautiful place if someone would take the time to do repairs

Okay in the winter but maybe not spring or summer

I like to get away when I camp. I’m happy with me, my motorcycle, and a hammock. This campground was great but I’m guessing it’s not much of escape in summer time and looks like it would get cramped pretty quickly.

Beautiful area on Beaver Lake

Very secluded area with a tight narrow road into the camp area.. sites are not level and only 10 sites with water and sewer.. the rest are semi primitive with power only.. all sites only have 30a power. The web site says 50a but it is wrong. Bonus to the camp sites is Starkey Marina .. awesome place with rental boats and a fully stocked store. Pizza and wings are available .. a few small updates and this site would be amazing

2nd try improved review

Went mid week and the campground was almost empty. The bathrooms were in much better shape than the previous stay, and I think it was due to how dull the campground was on that trip. Very peaceful. This is a great site for hammock camping and rv’s or campers because it is very steep ground, and the few tents I saw were no where near level. Would definitely stay here again.

Great views, horrible bathrooms.

This campground was located right on the water. There was a good amount of space between sites. It was fairly hilly so when we did walk down to the water, it was a climb to get back up. Would stay here again. The bathrooms were some of the worst I have ever been in.
