Little Cultus Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

About an hour's drive from Bend, Little Cultus Campground sits on the edge of Little Cultus Lake within Deschutes National Forest, reached via a road that multiple campers describe as rough and bumpy. The campground has a mix of standard and waterfront sites, with the lakeside spots filling quickly. Rigs up to 40 feet can access the campground, though the road conditions make the drive in something to plan for rather than assume.

The lake is the main draw. It runs shallow near shore, which makes it well-suited to families with young children, and the water supports SUP, kayaking, fishing, and swimming. Nights here tend to bring wildlife sounds, with campers noting owls and elk in the area. Cell service is unreliable, so plan accordingly before leaving town.

As Ashley B. puts it, "the lake is worth it" despite the basic, no-frills setup. Sites are large, but only a handful sit directly on the water, and reaching the lake from some sites means crossing through neighboring campsites. The Little Cultus Lake Campground Boat Ramp is 0.3 miles west for those launching watercraft. Reservations are available and worth securing early if a waterfront site matters to your trip, particularly on summer weekends.

Visitors often highlighted large sites and excellent lake access for water activities. Many mentioned the basic off-grid amenities and rough access roads but found the waterfront setting worth it for families.

Great site!

Spent 3 nights here with the fam. Great little lake to kick around on. Excellent for the kids as the lake was very shallow near the shore. The night was full of owl hoots and elk bugles. Prepare for a very bumpy road in.

Great dispersed camping right on the water

The proper Little Cultus Lake Campground has a bunch of sites but only a few on the water and not really worth the $ unless you get a site on the water. If you turn right instead of going left towards the campground, there are around 5-6 dispersed sites right there on the corner plus an amazing single site about 1/2 mile down that road, right on the lake. No cell service, rough roads, but amazing views right on the water of Little Cultus Lake. One of our favorite dispersed sites. For even more remote dispersed camping you can drive up to Irish and Taylor Lakes that have beautiful dispersed sites on the water but the road up is rough rough rough, not suitable for anything but a high clearance 4x4. About an hour from Bend.
