Campers regularly cited the spacious dispersed sites and scenic river/hill views as major draws. Access requires AWD vehicles due to rough roads, and the actual hot springs require wading across the river to reach.

Very Special Place

Absolutely beautiful spot with amazing hot springs. LEAVE IT BETTER THAN YOU FOUND IT, pack it in, pack it out.

I would say about 5 spots, 3 that are doable with a trailer and the rest I would not attempt it. Wade across the river to a beautiful hot spring. I recommend water shoes or walking stick to be careful, definitely a pretty fast moving river to walk across. Enjoy your time and appreciate this land!

Good stop on our long drive

The land is beautiful and mountainous, lots of spots to camp along the rocky bumpy road. Most cars can make it if you go slow, turn around spots available, lots of deep ruts at the very end of the road though. There’s not many easy paths through the shrubs down to the river, couldn’t find the hot springs. A local camper told us to wade the river to the island at the horseshoe part of the river but we didn’t attempt. Nice place to stop and rest!

Easy and peaceful spot

Getting there from the coordinates on this app was easy, although maps said I would have to walk I was easily able to drive a small trailer in all the way back. Nice open spot with lots of places to park, was a bit worried how open it was but there were a few other campers all spread out so it just felt homey.

Rough Road Beautiful Views

Passed it at first, and then was greeted by a pretty rough road (doable in AWD RAV4). HOWEVER it is very worth it for the beautiful views of the hills and river.

No amenities, but a couple of makeshift fire pits. Plenty of space, should have no problem finding a spot.

Part of the road was flooded by the river but there was still plenty of room!

Never found any “hot springs” lol

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best time of year to visit Juntura Hot Springs?

Spring through fall is generally the best time to visit Juntura Hot Springs, when road conditions are more favorable. Be aware that during high water periods, parts of the access road may be flooded, making the approach more challenging. Summer offers reliable access but may be busier. Fall provides beautiful scenery with fewer visitors. Winter visits are possible but require careful planning due to potentially difficult road conditions. Always check weather forecasts before your trip, as seasonal variations can significantly impact accessibility.

Where is Juntura Hot Springs located and how do I access it?

Juntura Hot Springs is located along a river surrounded by scenic hills. To access it, you'll need to navigate a somewhat rough road that requires an AWD vehicle. Some visitors report initially driving past it. The hot springs themselves are situated on an island at the tip of a horseshoe bend in the river, requiring you to wade across the water to reach them. While navigation apps might suggest the location is only accessible by foot, most capable vehicles can make it all the way to the camping area. Follow the coordinates provided in The Dyrt app for the most accurate directions.

Are there any rules or regulations for using Juntura Hot Springs?

As a dispersed camping area, Juntura Hot Springs follows standard BLM dispersed camping regulations. This typically includes a 14-day stay limit within any 28-day period. Practice Leave No Trace principles by packing out all trash, respecting the natural hot springs, and using existing fire rings when possible. Keep noise levels reasonable as there may be other campers in the area, though sites are generally well-spaced. Motor vehicles should remain on established roads to prevent environmental damage. Since this is a primitive site, there are no reservation systems or fees, but visitors should always respect the area's natural features.

What facilities and amenities are available at Juntura Hot Springs?

Juntura Hot Springs is a primitive dispersed camping area with minimal amenities. There are no official facilities such as restrooms, potable water, or trash service. A few makeshift fire pits created by previous visitors are available for use. The site offers plenty of open space with room to spread out, making it easy to find a spot to set up camp. Be prepared to bring all necessary supplies, including water, and plan to pack out all trash when you leave.
