Description
Perched atop a high-desert ridgeline in BLM's Vale Malheur country near Juntura, this hilltop site offers sweeping open views from a grassy meadow studded with juniper — and genuine solitude once you're up. The approach is a roughly 2.5-mile gravel climb that's entirely manageable when dry but turns treacherous in wet conditions, with narrow single-lane sections, no guardrails on the steeper pitches, and at least one erosion trench near the bottom that demands a careful line. An existing fire ring marks the site; cell signal is intermittent but occasionally reachable a short distance above the main camping area.
