Best Glamping near Fargo, ND

we love Buffalo River and try to make it out to at least enjoy the trails once a week. it's about a 15 minute drive from Fargo, with a few smaller towns closer for picking up things you may have forgotten.

there are several rv spots and a separate tent section. bathhouse in good condition. trails along and the river and through the prairie. they even have a swimming pond in the summer.

stunning no matter the season

I have a special love for this park so I maybe a bit biased. I have had great experiences here during every season. From great lakes to kayak and fish on, to trails that are beautiful to hike, snowshoe or cross country ski this park has something for everyone.

There is a main campground for those who want more of a community experience, campgrounds that have sites spaced out to provide more privacy, remote sites you can hike out to and even a horse campground (and trails marked for trail riding). They also have camper cabins and the main campground is open year round.

Ive stayed mostly in the knoll loop and always had a good experience. Trees and shrubs between sites adds a good amount of privacy for campers. There is a vault toilet in the center of the loop for campers to utilize.

Only located an hour from Fargo, ND and Pelican Rapids, MN is just a hop, skip and a jump away if you need to grab any forgotten supplies!

The one thing I will say is properly store your food. There are some overly active raccoon robbers around at this park.

There's a short row of camp spots in the sun for campers. Seems like a good portion of it is full of people who are here all the time. The rest of the campers are in the back of their truck, which i'm not opposed to, but they're in pretty tough shape and very old. I will say this is one of the least safe places. I have felt in North Dakota.

Close to fargo and moorhead if you're looking for things to do in the area! Like the other state parks you can get firewood at the office and sites come with a fire ring and table.

• This was my first time seeing a prairie. It was a really neat experience.
• This Minnesota state park is just outside of Fargo,ND, so it makes for a great get away in nature just outside of the hustle and bustle of the city.
• I recommend camping in one of the sites beside the Prairie.
• Extremely clean bath houses.
• Beware of mosquitos!

Buffalo river is not our favorite State Park but it is close to family and friends in the Fargo Morehead area. For the most part it’s just really mosquitoey. Make sure you bring bug spray. The campsites aren’t quite as spread out as some of the other state parks and it’s not as wooded as you’re in the plains. some of the sites have more trees than others.

We will go back because it’s convenient. You are also fairly close to the Detroit Lakes area. That is a fun place to visit and do some shopping.

Well maintained park and facilities. Smallish campground with electric hookups and nice sanitation station and water fill station. Everything from large class A to tents can fit in back in camp sites. Beautiful native prairie and river forest. Spotless and new shower house.

We camped here one night at the end of July as our first stop on a trip to Oregon. It was quiet on a Thursday. The swimming hole is closed this year so that probably kept some folks away.

We stayed in the electric loop as it's nice to charge things up for the next leg of the trip. They have non-electric tent sites as well.

Nice mature trees for shade. There is a large meadow with wild flowers and a trail next to the main campground. There were milkweed in bloom, wild roses and more.

Lots of trails and Buffalo River to explore.

Our site was very spacious and easy to back into. There is a dump station and a fresh water fill station by the entrance to the campground.

Few complaints. Shaded/well maintained campsites. Clean bathrooms, nice showers.

Just make sure you have a permit for every vehicle. $7 daily or $35 annual

Great place for an overnight stop. This is as consistent as a MN state park can be - nice sites, mostly well spaced and accessible, with some hiking trails, dump station and brand new shower/restroom building. The night we were there had races going on at the nearby speedway - made it hard for campfire conversations. Good AT&T coverage.

This was a really nice campground. It just has power at some of the sites and no water/sewer, but there is a dump station on the way in to fill up with water. The sites were nicely spaced and we had some shade. There were nice trails right from the campground. It was really quiet at night. This was one of our favorite campgrounds of our trip.

Easy access from freeway. Level sites, though some close together. Beautiful quiet peaceful place. Dump station, electric hookups.

Good state park campground with everything you need. You can make your reservations online once you get there, and it’s nice because there’s no online transaction fee. But watch out that you pay the $7 daily state park entry fee as well as the camping fee, because otherwise you'll get a friendly visit from a ranger! 

 There are two loops, one slightly larger one with 50 and 30 amp power (no water or sewer) for $34, and one smaller one with no power for $24. We stayed in a power site because we couldn’t handle the heat anymore, otherwise the smaller one looked a little nicer and quieter and we would have stayed there. 

Showers were nice and clean and free. Bathrooms were nice. 

Very nice walking trails all around the campground and throughout the park as a whole. Trash dumpsters here as well as an assortment of segregated recycle bins. Good cell reception with Verizon and ATT. Firewood available at office for $8 and ice for $3. 

Group camp is off from the main campground a ways, but connected via a little walking trail. There is a dump station and potable water fill at the campground exit. 

No drinking allowed at any Minnesota State Park campground!

The campground was pretty open, but it was a fun place. There is a swimming pond close to the campground and some open area to play lawn games. Would go back here!

As primarily a hammock camper I am often frustrated with trying to find sites online. So I wanted to say that Buffalo River State Park, in addition to some very good prairie and woodland trails, as some excellent sites for hammock campers. Specifically those in the non-electric sites. This park has nice bathrooms, a unique swimming area (when it is open) and nice flat sites. Also, prairie hiking is something every hiker ought to try. The plant bird and insect life is really accessible. It also makes you appreciate those shaded woodland walks. This park has both plus an interesting geological history and a sweet river.

We stayed here for a weekend to try out our new camper someplace close to home. The park was nice and clean. The campground host came over and introduced himself and let us know he had firewood and could get ice if we needed it. There isn't much to do aside from some hiking and that's mostly grassy field area. If you are looking for a nice place to kick up and relax this is a good one.

We feel like we scored the best site in the campground by sheer luck. The even number sites along the open field side give you great views to be able to bird watch and wildlife viewing. . The bathhouse was clean. There is a dump station and a couple of places to fill your fresh water tanks if you are in a RV. . I do wish there was better access to the river from the campground. The trails didn’t really take you to the river.

good trail system with a walk through the prairie and/or by the river..the weather was perfect when we came, 75 and a breeze...

We had an incident with our cat. Cat got loose and everyone worked as a team to get him found. People were walking and looking for him. Posters went up around the grounds. We left our # with two campgrounds and as soon as they saw him 8 hours after he went missing, they called us and kept him contained. We appreciate everyone and their kind acts...

Very few other campers on May 15, 2023 and we enjoyed the quiet.

The camp host and fellow campers were all very nice!

We often take our dog here on the weekends for longer, out of city limits walks. The trails are the perfect amount for that purpose and he enjoys the wildlife that hides in the natural prairie fauna. The trails hug the river so there's easy enough access if you wanted to play in the water. You do have to walk through some brush however, so be aware.

The swimming area is wonderful! Less chlorine than you'd ever get exposed to in a public pool and picnic table access with lots of area to picnic.

We have not camped in this park yet.

This is a great location if you are just getting into the camping lifestyle. The easy to drive to camp sites and flat geography make it easy to find that perfect spot. If you want to fall asleep and wake up to the sound of running water, you are able to get a site near Buffalo River. If planning on hiking with younger children, the trails around the camp site are very easy as the offer very little elevation change and are very well groomed. The park itself is very pretty all year round whether it's in spring/early summer and seeing the wildflowers and prairie smoke or the fall and the dazzling display of colors.
