Best Equestrian Camping near New Russia, NY

Frontier Town Campground in North Hudson features specialized facilities for campers traveling with horses. The equestrian loop contains multiple campsites designed specifically for horse owners, though some visitors note the layout can be confusing with its system of fences and shared pedestals. Sites are spacious, with reviewers mentioning individual spots large enough to accommodate extremely long RVs, some extending 75 feet in length. The campground maintains clean, well-kept grounds in an old-growth forest setting, with immaculate bathrooms and showers regularly serviced by staff. Accommodations include both RV and tent camping options with electric hookups, water access, and sanitary dump stations.

Trail access provides opportunities for riding directly from the campground, making it a convenient base for equestrians exploring the Adirondack region. Located near Lake George and Ticonderoga, the campground serves as a strategic starting point for various outdoor activities, including day hikes and cycling adventures. The main roads through the property are dirt with some rutting, requiring careful navigation, especially with horse trailers. Summer visits may encounter significant insect activity, particularly in June when biting insects can be problematic. Sites on the west side of the road receive the best morning sun, beneficial for campers needing to dry equipment after adventures. The campground experiences higher occupancy on weekends, with notably fewer visitors during weekdays.

    Frontier Town Campground

    So clean!

We stayed in site 33 which is in the equestrian camping area. It’s really open with little tree cover which is perfect for those who work remote using Starlink. We had fantastic connection. The sites in the equestrian camping area are huge and so clean. The bathrooms are the cleanest I’ve seen so far and we do this full time. The only disappointment was that the hot water doesn’t get very hot in the shower so you better do some jumping jacks to get pumped before showering during colder temps! The trails are well marked and well maintained. Overall, this is a fantastic campsite. There’s even a brewery a ten minute walk down the road. We didn’t go but looks nice. Get your supplies before you arrive! Not many places around to quickly grab charcoal if you need it.

    Clean and New

Sites are built wrong so it is hard to get you camper into your site correct. It is definitely catered to the equestrian part of the camping. I won’t be going back there anytime soon.

    Frontier Town Campground

New, very nice, with killer bugs

I was in site 43, it was long enough it could have fit two of the biggest RVs I have ever seen. My 75 foot starling cable did not even reach all the way back out to the road. I drove through the equestrian loop and found it very confusing. Lots of fences and shared pedestals. I stayed in the next loop, stagecoach. Everything looked spic and span like it had just opened last month. The young man at the check in station said there were very few people there except on the weekends. I only saw three or four other rVs and two of them had to camp right next to me. I saw the bugs, some of them clearly mosquitoes and I never saw one get away with biting me. But I ended up with two lower legs and two forearms that constantly itch like mad. I will never go back in June.

    AuSable Chasm Campground

    Cute and Quaint

Upon arrival, the front desk clerk was very nice and helpful. We found our way to the tent sites, nestled in the very back corner which for us was exactly what we like. Sites were a medium distance apart but still spacious enough to not be close to neighbors. Showers and restrooms were nearby and it being a weekday, there really wasn’t much traffic of campers or hikers. It was cozy and tucked into the woods with town only being a few miles away!

    Beautiful/Fun Campground

I wish I had my bike!!! I didn’t know that this was a biking campground and there were SO MANY trails. Made the most of them with running, but overall, a fantastic campground. Showers were clean, staff was very friendly. Sites and attractions within walking distance (but busy roads to cross).

    Branbury State Park Campground

    Beautiful!

Had an amazing time at Branbury. The site was so scenic with a little waterfall and stream nearby. The camp staff was so nice. They kept the the bathrooms and areas so clean.

There was plenty of space between sites so it didn’t feel like you were on top of each other. Bathrooms are flushing compost. However, there are only four showers for the whole campground.

Book early if you want to get a site with a lean-to!

Across the street from the campground was access to the lake with plenty of grassy areas to hang out. And beautiful sunsets at night! A five minute hike- though it is quite a rocky, boulder-y hike- from the sites leads to a small river and swimming hole.

Just make sure you put your food and trash away- there are black bears in the area!

    Branbury State Park Campground

    Mountainside Bliss

I’ve been here dozens of times, grew up going here every year and hiking rattlesnake. We make the trip from RI. Love to lake access, secluded camping, the hiking and remote area.

Planning on revisiting next summer, even in august the nights get to a good sleeping temperature a vast majority of the time.

I guess only negative thing to say is they changed the site numbers years back and we thought we booked the best site next to the River fro, past experiences but it was the one next to the bathrooms after they changed the site numbers without a warning.

    Branbury State Park Campground

    Excellent campground

Such a beautiful place to stay! We stayed in a wooded area surrounded by large rocks my daughter could climb on. The beach was nearby and included in the stay with horseshoes and a playground. There was hiking nearby, but with the rain we weren't able to go. Can't wait to go back again!
