Roughing it in nature

Great place for friends and family to meet. Much nicer with a higher water level.

Sand and wind

Be careful!!! Almost got stuck in the sand while trying to find a spot level enough to park. Many people had dug out around their trailer to get the slides out. Several people used construction generators to power their rigs. Stayed for a weekend. Had a hard time leaving the trailer due to sand in the wind flying at high rates of speed. No hook ups, they do have a dump station and community water faucets. Vault toilets in many locations, no designated camping spaces. Just find a spot where you fit.

The Slow Jams...

It's a reservoir with a lot of RVs, 4x4s that have driven up to the lakeside, and an outdoor stage was cranking music just a few miles away.

It wasn't a bad place to stop, however, on the drive from Nor Cal (away from the fires and smoke) on the way to Yellowstone. People were kayaking and fishing, and a few had some classic 1990s slow jams to set the mood (if that's your thing).

A family friendly place that's worth a stop in the middle of the Nevada desert.

We had a hard time finding entrance

You must go through the main entrance to the Fort Churchill historical site to enter this campground. DO NOT drive down the gravel road that runs along the river. There is no camping at the historical site, only in Samuel Buckland Campground. It’s very nicely laid out, with some pull through and back in spots. No hook ups, vault toilets. $5 firewood at the Fort Churchill entrance, but no burning allowed at this time. We were nicely surprised to have water spigots at the sites (not hook ups). First come first served $15 per night and very quiet at night for a good sleep. Verizon cell service was not good.

July 4th Weekends

Had a great time celebrating the 4th. Ft Churchill staff had an old time type of celebration. Fun activities for the entire family.

Good family campground with lots of amenities and benefits

Bring all items you need or be prepared to leave camp to go to the store.

Overflow!

Camped overnight on the beach, but could not fully access location due to water conditions. The reservoir is completely full this year and the water has flooded out the established campground area and many beaches are not accessible. Dispered camping is allowed on the beach and limited access to amenities. Only pit toilet and no potable water. Area is patrolled by a ranger and appears to be popular with boaters and water enthusiasts! Beach campfires permitted, with caution.
