Quiet and consistently clean, Maskenthine Lake Recreation Area sits northwest of camping near Stanton in Nebraska's Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District, managed by the district and open to drive-in, walk-in, and boat-in campers. Sites include electric and water hookups, and a dump station sits near the entrance. Restrooms have showers, and water spigots are distributed throughout the campground. The lake draws anglers and kayakers, and mountain bike trails run nearby.
Road conditions are a real planning factor here. The western approach runs two miles of gravel followed by three miles of dirt, which becomes impassable after rain. The eastern entry is four to five miles of washboard. Cell coverage runs around three bars on AT&T. Pilger City Park is an alternative roughly ten miles east for campers who want paved access.
